College Football Rankings: The 5 Most Overrated Teams in the Top 25

The college football rankings can sometimes be misleading, as there are several teams in the Top 25 that are overrated.

The teams ranked in the Top 25 frequently change throughout each college football season. Sometimes all it takes for an overrated team to be ousted is for them to play a quality opponent.

Here is a quick look at five teams in the Top 25 that are overrated.

Boise State Broncos

The Boise State Broncos are the highest ranked team that is overrated in the Top 25. The Broncos are a solid team, but simply don't play a tough enough schedule to be ranked in the Top Five.

Comparing Boise State's schedule to the likes of LSU or Alabama is like comparing apples and oranges. The Broncos toughest opponent this season was a Georgia team that was ranked 19th when the two teams played to open their seasons, but is no longer in the Top 25.

The toughest remaining game that Boise State will play is against TCU who are no longer even ranked.

Until the Broncos move into a tougher conference and start playing much tougher schedules, they will not get the national attention that they think they deserve.

Texas A&M Aggies

The Texas A&M Aggies started the season with two strong victories against decidedly weak opponents. They then lost their next two games against ranked teams by narrow margins.

By losing closely to those ranked opponents, the Aggies showed that they do not have the ability to close out tight games against quality opponents.

They lost to the seventh-ranked Oklahoma State Cowboys by a score of 30-29 after holding a big lead at halftime, and then they lost to the 18th-ranked Arkansas Razorbacks by a score of 42-38.

The Aggies do have four more games against teams currently in the Top 25. Until they show they can beat those teams handily, they should not be in the Top 25.

West Virginia Mountaineers

The West Virginia Mountaineers are currently ranked 16th in the Top 25. That ranking might be a little lofty for a team that squeaked past the Maryland Terrapins, and lost big to the second-ranked LSU Tigers.

The Mountaineers had a great opportunity to show the nation that they were the real deal when they played LSU at home. However, they were unable to rise to the challenge.

With no more high-quality opponents on their schedule, the Mountaineers will likely just fall into obscurity as the season progresses.

Baylor Bears

The Baylor Bears have one of the most powerful offenses in the country. They are ranked eighth overall in passing yards per game and fourth overall in points for.

However, a recent loss to Kansas State has shown that they might not be as good a team as people think.

Baylor has several tough games remaining, including an away game at Oklahoma State and a home game against Oklahoma. Until Baylor shows that they are capable of beating tough teams, their ranking in the Top 25 is shaky at best.

Illinois Fighting Illini

The Illinois Fighting Illini have not been very impressive despite their 19th ranking in the Top 25. Their only big win came against South Dakota State who they beat 56-3.

Their last three victories have all been by a margin of three points with the best win coming against the 22nd-ranked Arizona State Sun Devils.

Illinois just does not have the talent to compete with the other powerful teams in the Big Ten. It won't be long before they are no longer ranked in the Top 25.
