College Football Picks Week 6: Sound the Upset Alarm for Arkansas and Michigan
It’s going to be coming sooner or later.
The college football season hasn’t given us many upsets this season as we wait for that one week for multiple top teams to crumble in unison.
This week a quick glance of the top 25 schedule gives you a lot of games that look like one-dimensional match-ups on paper.
I’m here to give you two ranked teams that shouldn’t be taking their opponent lightly on Saturday:
No. 15 Auburn @ No. 10 Arkansas
The Tigers have been one of the biggest surprises in college football and continue to not get the respect they deserve. The team plays extremely scrappy and is led by a head coach in Gene Chizik who is certainly earning his paycheck this season. The team has won 19 of 20 games.
The Razorbacks sport a horrific defense, but have one of the best passing offenses in the nation. Only six teams in college football average more passing yards than the Tyler Wilson-led offense.
They’re going to move the ball on the mediocre Auburn secondary, but will really struggle to run the ball. Last week, the Tigers shut down Heisman candidate Marcus Lattimore and should be able to keep Ronnie Wingo in check.
It’s going to be a shootout that comes down to the last possession; do you want to bet against a Tigers team that has won 11 straight games decided by eight points or less.
Prediction: Auburn 44 Arkansas 40
No.12 Michigan @ Northwestern
The Wolverines were lucky enough to have their first five games at home. They crushed mostly lesser competition and now are extremely overrated at No. 12.
The defense is one of the best in the country a year after being ranked 110th in the nation in 2010.
The Wildcat offense is averaging almost 30 points a game and QB Dan Persa and the rest of the unit have only coughed up the ball twice in four games. Last week they were winning by four with 75 seconds remaining against then-No.24 ranked Illinois.
This team is playing at a high level and will be able to counter Denard Robinson by taking what the defense gives them and methodically moving the ball down the field. Robinson can’t make plays when he’s on the sideline.
The Wildcats forced three TOs against the Fighting Illini, and Robinson has thrown a conference-high six interceptions.
Expect a big turnover late in the game to swing all of the momentum as the Wildcats pull off the biggest upset of the week.
Prediction: Northwestern 24 Michigan 23
