College Football Predictions: Oregon Ducks and 5 Sure Fire Covers
Who likes to see a college co-ed in a Duck mascot costume do a lot of push-ups? Because if you’re like me, you sure do get a kick out of seeing that poor schmuck doing those push-ups after Oregon has scored their sixth touchdown in a blowout of whomever they’re playing.
This will be the scene when the Ducks kick off against the Cal Bears on Thursday Night, as the Ducks come in a 24-point favorite.
Will they be the only team that will run the score up this weekend on their poor under talented opponent? No, of course not. Every week College Football has teams that run the score up to 62-6 like Oklahoma did against Ball State last week.
College Football is the only league where it rewards teams that purposely have no mercy. The bigger your point margin the better your chances are in climbing in both the Associated Press and USA Today Coaches Polls.
Only beat a team by 10-20 points while the team that’s ranked below you wins by 35 in the same week; well you can expect to see a flip in the rankings.
Here are teams that will cover this week easily while running up the score having no mercy.
Oregon (-24) over California
As noted in the above paragraphs the Oregon Ducks will drop 50-60 points on the Cal Bears on Thursday Night. This game is in Eugene, Oregon where the Ducks are rarely beaten.
Oregon hasn’t had a chance to climb in either poll since their opening loss to LSU. Look for the Ducks to keep scoring points until time expires on the game clock.
Boise State (-21) over Fresno State
Last week Boise had a chance to cover a 27-point spread against Nevada. They did not, only winning 30-10. That game was not on national television unlike this game.
Expect Boise State to purposely run up the score to show the viewers at home that they should not be forgotten in the chase for the National Championship.
Georgia Tech (-14) over Maryland
Georgia Tech should not let up against Maryland just for the sole purpose of those horrendous uniforms that Maryland trots out with every week. Tech has a deadly running attack that the Terps will not be able to stop.
Tech will have a blowout this Saturday at home.
West Virginia (-20) over Connecticut
The Mountaineers are still one of the best teams in college football even after their loss to LSU two weeks ago. They will breeze through their Big East schedule and be a very good one-loss BCS team come January.
The only way that West Virginia doesn’t cover this week is if they get bored in the fourth quarter and allow UCONN a garbage time touchdown.
Clemson (-21) over Boston College
Clemson has proven the experts on television, radio and in print for the last three weeks. They were expected to lose against Auburn, Florida State and Virginia Tech, but won each game convincingly.
This week they get a week off from the skeptics by playing Boston College and continue to roll with this well ran offense.
