College Football Picks Week 6: Boise State and 3 Heavy Favorites That Will Roll

Point spreads are always dangerous, especially when they are more than one possession. Favorites just aren't worried about covering, and underdogs aren't worried about preventing a cover.

All those teams care about is winning the game, so they aren't going to worry about taking chances (or not taking chances) that puts the point spread at risk.

Still, there are always plenty of point spreads that wouldn't appear to be in much danger. If you take a look at Bodog.com, you'll see plenty of double-digit favorites.

Some are good bets, some are not. Since I am in a good mood today, let's take a look at those teams that are good bets.

Nebraska (-11.5) over Ohio State

This has potential to be a tricky game. The Ohio State players that were suspended for five games are now returning to action. That will give the Buckeyes plenty of returning talent.

The problem is that it's a little unpredictable how the returning talent will mix with the existing talent. This is basically another opening game of the season for Ohio State.

And they aren't opening with a typical easy opponent. Instead, the returning Ohio State players will be making their triumphant return against Nebraska, in Lincoln.

The Cornhuskers are going to be eager to show that what happened against Wisconsin is not what we're going to see from them this year. I like the home team to win this one with relative ease.

LSU (-14) over Florida

Looking at what happened to Florida against Alabama, I have a hard time seeing them competing with LSU.

We can debate back and forth about who's better between Alabama and LSU. We'll find that out on November 5. But for the sake of argument, let's call that a push.

Florida will be facing some significant injuries when they play LSU. That wasn't really the case when they played Alabama. 

Florida will be playing this game in LSU's famed "Death Valley." The game against Alabama was at home, in "The Swamp."

The final score of the Alabama vs. Florida game was 38-10 Alabama.

Looking at that, 14 points shouldn't be much of an issue.

Boise State (-21) over Fresno State

Unlike the other two favorites, Boise State will be on the road. But that's really the only thing working against the Broncos here.

Because, unlike the other teams, Boise State needs to beat teams like Fresno State convincingly. If LSU plays a weaker opponent early in the year and struggles to a win, they will be okay.

Worst-case scenario for them is that they will drop a little bit in the rankings, but they still have an entire SEC schedule to impress the pollsters.

Boise State doesn't have that. They need to beat Fresno State convincingly. Given that knowledge and the fact that they have Kellen Moore, I'll go with the Broncos to cruise past a 21-point win.
