Week 6 College Football Picks: Oregon Ducks and 5 Double Digit Covers This Week

T.J. McaloonOct 5, 2011

There are really good teams and then there are the horrible teams in college football. Every week there are a number of these types of teams that play each other and in those games the odds makers come out with a double digit point line for the game.

Us gamblers take a look at these spreads and say to ourselves, “Are you kidding me Oklahoma is GIVING 40 points to Ball State?”

Then teams, like Oklahoma, take those large point spreads and find a way to win the game 62-6, like they did last week against Ball State.

As college football heads into the half way point teams are starting to play other schools in their conference and the point spreads start to get closer. Week 6 has a number of games that features double digit point spreads with teams that will cover these big margins.

All lines are from Bodog.eu, home teams are in CAPS.

California vs. OREGON (-27)

Ever since Oregon lost their opening game to LSU they have yet to lose another game, score less than 56 points and win by less than 25 points. They are back to their high scoring ways that escaped them in that first game against LSU.

Cal is a respectable 3-1 this year, however, against two other Pac-12 teams they gave up 33 and 31 points.

Oregon will win this game by scoring at least 50 points with a good chance to 70.

Boise State (-21) vs. FRESNO STATE

Boise State had a double digit point spread last week against Nevada but couldn’t cover. This week they get a Fresno State team that is 2-3 this year coming off of a loss to Ole Miss 38-28. Fresno State has played a ranked team this year against Nebraska losing 42-29.

Kellen Moore and Boise State will run the score up on the Bulldogs as a national audience watches.

Boston Collage vs. CLEMSON (-21)

This is the first week in the last three weeks that Clemson has an opponent where not only are they not ranked but that Clemson is favored by double digits. The past three weeks Clemson has proved a lot of college football experts on television wrong by beating Auburn, beating Florida State, and beating Virginia Tech.

Florida vs. LSU (-14)

Before the John Brantley injury to Florida this spread would have been seven points in favor of LSU. Now that Florida is starting freshman Jeff Driskel at LSU this will make for an easy cover for the Tigers.

The defense will pitch a shutout while the offense will do enough to score 21-24 points.

Colorado vs. Stanford (-29 1/2)

Last week as a 21-point favorite they were five yards out of the end-zone up 38-19 with less than two minuets left in the game the Cardinals could have just taken a knee and ran out the clock. Instead Luck throws a touchdown pass and they kicked the extra point winning 45-19 and covering.

Their playing style is the reason Stanford will find a way to cover again against Colorado just like last week.
