Florida vs LSU: 5 Bold Predictions For Saturday's Game

Johnathan CaceOct 5, 2011

In one of three games between ranked games, Florida travels to LSU for a crucial SEC matchup.

The Tigers are ranked first in the country and have been incredibly impressive against some of the best competition.

The Gators are coming off a home loss to Alabama and will be without starting quarterback John Brantley. His replacement is freshman Jeff Driskel.

They will either need to win this game or run through the rest of their conference schedule undefeated then hope that the rest of the SEC East has two losses.

Here are five bold predictions for their game this Saturday.

Chris Rainey Gets Stuffed

1 of 5

The combo of Rainey and Jeff Demps is absolutely lethal.

These guys are two of the fastest players in all of college football and are threats to score anytime they touch the ball.

But they combined for a whopping eight yards on the ground.

Expect LSU to come out with a similar game plan and for their sound defense to bottle up these studs.

It may not be as bad as what Alabama did but Rainey and Demps should not be on your fantasy team.

Tyrann Mathieu Gets Another Turnover

2 of 5

Mathieu has been an incredible ball hawk and has continued the legacy of Patrick Peterson and then some.

He already holds the record for LSU career forced fumbles with nine and the next closest person has seven. He also has an interception.

With a rookie quarterback coming into their hostile environment, everyone will be blitzing to try and rattle Driskel.

Whether it’s a corner blitz or an interception, odds are that Tyrann will force a turnover of some kind this Saturday.

LSU Gets over 250 Yards Rushing

3 of 5

In their first real test defensively, Florida failed miserably at stopping the run.

Alabama averaged 5.3 yards per carry as a team and Trent Richardson got 181 yards just on the ground. And it’s not like they didn’t know it was coming.

LSU has a more diverse attack with Michael Ford and Spencer Ware and they can consequently be more rested.

This means more explosiveness power per touch which equates to longer drives and more time of possession.

And all of that was at home. How well will they do on the road?

Jeff Driskel Does Better Than Expected

4 of 5

There are not many situations tougher than coming in in the middle of a game as a quarterback against the second best team in the country.

Going on the road to No. 1 LSU in your first start is one of those things.

But Driskel is a talented guy who did as well as anyone could have expected in limited action last week.

With an extra week to physically and mentally prepare for this game, he should have a considerably better, albeit not perfect, performance.

LSU Wins by 20

5 of 5

The Tigers have been the most impressive team in the country. While in Florida’s lone game to a ranked opponent, they lost humiliatingly at home.

With so much great game tape to view from that loss, LSU will bring a lot of pressure and force a bunch of turnovers. Then they’ll run the ball all game and eat up the clock.

The line for this game opened at -12 but is now up to -13.5 and may continue to go up because so many people this game as a steal to bet on.
