College Football Predictions: Predicting When LSU Will Fall From No. 1
Will LSU ever fall from their top spot at No. 1? You'd think they have to eventually.
Their schedule in the SEC is tough, but you could debate that the toughest stretch is already over.
LSU isn't likely to lose more than one game this year. Heck, some think they might not lose any.
Here's a look at their top five toughest games the rest of the season, ordered by which they are most likely to lose.
5. Florida (Oct. 8)
1 of 5LSU's matchup this upcoming weekend is against the Florida Gators.
LSU isn't too likely to lose this game. Florida is coming off a blowout loss to Alabama, and a second consecutive loss for the Gators looks inevitable.
This Florida team is still probably a year or two away from realistically competing for an SEC title. They currently look like a seven or eight win team, but Will Muschamp will have these guys playing at a higher level soon enough.
John Brantley is out for this game with an injury, so true freshman Jeff Driskel will be making his first start.
Will Florida even be able to move the ball effectively on this LSU defense?
This game probably won't be a blowout, but it likely won't come down to the final minutes either. Look for LSU to win by about 14 or 17.
4. @ Tennessee (Oct. 15)
2 of 5Some may think that it is absurd to have Tennessee as one of LSU's toughest games down the stretch.
The only reason is because it's being played on the road.
Can Tennessee really pull off the upset though? The Volunteers are actually 3-1 right now, with an impressive win over Cincinnati, who hasn't lost any other games this year.
Does that really mean anything? Derek Dooley is trying to bring this Tennessee program back to the top, and so far it looks like he's doing a decent job.
Look for the Volunteers to be a yearly eight or nine win team once Dooley gets all his players in.
The talent level at Tennessee isn't as low as some might think right now. Tyler Bray is a great young quarterback that will test LSU's defense, and Tauren Poole had a great year last season.
The young receivers Tennessee has are amazing. Da'Rick Rogers is turning into a star, and Justin Hunter was developing nicely until he tore his ACL against Florida.
Tennessee may score some points against LSU, but they'll likely have trouble stopping LSU's offense.
Look for LSU to win this game, but they should definitely be on upset alert going in.
3. Auburn (Oct. 22)
3 of 5This Auburn team looks to be a lot better than many people expected coming into the season.
Not many people predicted that they would go into South Carolina last week and win.
Auburn won't compete for the SEC West title, but they could give some teams a scare.
LSU could be one of those teams.
Because they're playing at home, I don't think you can realistically give Auburn a chance to win, but they do have a chance to keep it close.
Barrett Trotter actually looks good as Auburn's quarterback, and the offense should be able to score on LSU.
LSU's offense probably won't have too much trouble scoring though. This game certainly won't be a shootout, but it may not be low scoring either.
Look for LSU to win by about 10 or 14.
2. Arkansas (Nov. 25)
4 of 5This game will be a huge test for LSU.
Arkansas beat them last year, and has actually had some success against LSU in recent years.
This Arkansas offense hasn't missed a beat without Ryan Mallett. In fact, losing Knile Davis was a much bigger loss than Ryan Mallett.
If Knile Davis was healthy, this could potentially be a national title contending team.
Arkansas is still very good, and will likely lose only one or two more games this year.
Arkansas probably won't win the SEC West, but they certainly might in the near future if Bobby Petrino sticks around.
Petrino is looking to build Arkansas into an annual contender in the SEC, and so far that's exactly what he's doing.
If things fall right for the Razorbacks this year, this game potentially could have SEC West title implications. A lot of things would have to work out for Arkansas though.
LSU will probably win this game, but it wouldn't be too shocking if Arkansas won.
1. @ Alabama (Nov. 5)
5 of 5Having Alabama here at No. 1 is a no brainer.
This is, by far, LSU's toughest game of the year. In fact, you can't even compare another game to it.
Both teams will likely come in undefeated, and will likely be ranked No. 1 and No. 2 in the country.
Even if LSU comes in at No. 1, Alabama should probably be favored.
It certainly wouldn't be surprising if LSU won, but Alabama will likely be the team that wins this game.
Whoever wins this game will probably win the SEC West, and then will face either Florida or Georgia in the SEC championship.
They will probably roll over the SEC East winner on their way to the national title.
This is being hyped as the best game of the year, and probably deserves that billing. However, this is likely the spot where LSU falls from No. 1.
Alabama will then claim that ranking and hold onto it for the rest of the regular season.
