Cristiano Ronaldo Promises Real Madrid Will Defeat FC Barcelona This Season

Real Madrid Attacker Cristiano Ronaldo promised that his team will defeat FC Barcelona in the current La Liga season. Ronaldo made his promise to a fan while visiting a center which treats children with special needs.

The promise was reported in AS and published in Goal.com. The promise made by Ronaldo inspired me to write a personal rebuttal based on reasons.

The principal reason is that nothing is guaranteed in sports, and that includes world football. The other reasons depend on the people involved in the matches, the attitude, performance, health, and (in a small way) statistics.

Volatility of Team Statistics

FC Barcelona is currently in first place with 14 points on the La Liga Table, followed by Levante and Real Madrid. In the beginning of the current La Liga season, FC Barcelona and Real Madrid were behind teams such as Betis.

I thought that Real Betis was going to be the force to be reckoned with in the current La Liga season. Real Betis then lost their match to Getafe and everything went downhill for the team.

People In Barca

Leo Messi has scored 14 goals within 11 matches for Barca including two hat tricks. Messi scored two goals against Real Madrid in the Spanish Super Cup.

Cesc Fabregas scored four goals within five matches ever since he signed up with Barca over a month ago. Fabregas also had four assists and eight shots during the current La Liga season.

Fabregas may be out for a few weeks, but he will be the person to watch this current season. The rest of Barca appears to be a team that works in cohesion to produce the results of victories regardless of personalities.

Statistics

During the current La Liga season, FC Barcelona defeated Villareal CF, Osasuna, Atletico Madrid, and Sporting Gijon to obtain four victories. Barca had two draws against Valencia CF and Real Sociedad with no defeats at the present time.

The 2011-12 UEFA Champions League tables shows that Barca drew against AC Milan. Barca also defeated FC BATE Borisov in their home country of Belarus.

Barca managed to obtain 11 victories, three losses, and six draws in its matches since July 2011.

Conclusion

What I have written is based on my feelings and on the cold statistics. The following demographics are subject to change with time.

My only advice to Ronaldo is to not make promises that cannot be kept. Ronaldo can say that Real Madrid will do better. But to say that his team will defeat Barca depends on many factors.

The only thing that remains is to enjoy the current La Liga season and see what transpires.
