Jordan Jefferson: LSU's Missing Piece to National Title Puzzle
The LSU Tigers are a team that is good enough to win the Bowl Championship Series National Title without Jordan Jefferson. So now, with Jefferson rejoining the Tigers, it makes this team an even bigger favorite to win this year’s national championship.
Jefferson returned to this LSU Tigers team last week against the Kentucky Wildcats after serving a four-game suspension from school after an incident involving Jefferson and an off-campus bar fight.
This suspension was right before the Tigers' first game of the season against Oregon.
But the team and its offense that Jefferson left behind due to suspension did not fail as expected against Oregon or any of their other four opponents. Jarrett Lee came in, and he has directed this Tigers offense as well if not better than Jefferson could have done if he had not gotten suspended.
With Jefferson back last week against Kentucky, the Tigers offense was able to work both quarterbacks into a successful game plan, beating Kentucky 35-7.
The first test for this offense with their original starting quarterback back in the mix is against Florida this week. Luckily for LSU, Florida is hurting at the quarterback position with John Brantley dealing with an ankle injury from last week’s game against Alabama.
This injury to Brantley is good timing for LSU in case this offense struggles to get off to a good start. With the rotation of Lee and Jefferson, the Tigers defense will be able to keep them in the game since Florida’s offense should be non-existent on Saturday.
The first weeks getting Jordan back into the mix will have some growing pains. The offense will have some struggles getting in a nice mix with these two veteran quarterbacks.
Overall, these two quarterbacks will only make this team even harder to beat. LSU head coach Les Miles is crazy enough to not only use both of these quarterbacks, getting them even playing time, but he’s crazy enough to use both of these guys at the same time.
As an opposing coach, how do you prepare for that?
Some teams are struggling to find one starting quarterback to lead their offense to a victory. For LSU, their problem is that they have two quarterbacks who can lead this team to a national championship.
It’s a problem that a majority of the NCAA Division-I Coaches can only dream about.
