LA Angels Free Agent News: Biggest Roster Holes That Need Filling
While they had the opportunity to be the American League Wild Card in the playoffs, the stars did not align for these Angels. The Rays and the Red Sox did their part, but the team just couldn't make it happen.
Now the whole organization is being shaken up after its second consecutive year of not making the playoffs. General manager Tony Reagins resigned, and some believe it was a forced resignation after team owner Arte Moreno said the front office needed a change.
With adjustments being made upstairs, it is only fair to shake up the field a bit as well. The Angels' 25-man roster has a few holes that definitely need to be taken care of in the offseason.
Torii Hunter
1 of 6The 36-year-old outfielder is one Angel that should probably be sent on his way.
While he still has one year and $15 million left on his contract, it would be wise for the Angels to bring in a young gun. Hunter said in September that he wanted to retire as a member of the Angels; perhaps that could work in the team's favor.
Albert Pujols
2 of 6Albert Pujols would be an interesting addition to the Angels roster. The first baseman could give Kendrys Morales some time to recover in the minors before inserting him back at DH.
Jeremy Affeldt
3 of 6The lefty helped the Giants in their World Series run in 2010. He would be a great addition in middle relief.
While he was not in rotation at the end of the season due to a kitchen injury, it is believed that Affeldt will be ready by spring training.
Yadier Molina
4 of 6The Angels had brothers Bengie and Jose, so why not add Yadier? He is a three-time All-Star and has three Gold Gloves.
Jose Reyes
5 of 6Reyes could replace Erick Aybar and be the Angels' long-term solution as their leadoff hitter.
Bobby Abreu
6 of 6Abreu struggled most of the season, and while the Angels would love to have the veteran back to normal in 2012, is it really that likely at 38?
The chance they would take hoping for Abreu to get back in the swing of things could hold them back from a young player who could help the team out in the long run.
