Football's Top 10 Worst Broken Bones Caught on Video
This will not be pretty, this will not be funny and this is not for the faint-hearted.
For all of the passion, celebration and jubilation sport can provide, it can also leave you seeing things you wish you hadn't.
One of the strange things about broken legs, despite the gruesomeness, is that people seem interested in seeing them. But why?
It's not out of enjoyment—at least I hope not—but more out of mystery. People are fascinated at seeing the incomprehensible level of duress it takes to finally push the human body to a breaking point. That is something most of us will fortunately never have to go through.
Feel free to spend a few minutes groaning, wincing and in a general state of trauma as we look back on some of the worst injuries in football history.
Djibril Cisse
1 of 10To break your leg is unlucky. To break your leg in two places on the same tackle is just sad.
Djibril Cisse had a tough time in English football, and this was tough to watch.
Djibril Cisse, the Sequel
2 of 10The man is cursed.
From a nasty double break to your ankle being twisted beyond its range of motion, Djibril Cisse should be commended just for being walk again.
Eduardo
3 of 10Probably the most famous in recent years, this tackle pretty much ended Eduardo's career, and this game pretty much did the same to Arsenal's season.
Remember William Gallas sulking on the pitch at the end of the game? Man up.
Aaron Ramsey
4 of 10This isn't the work tackle in the group, but it is one of the worst results.
Fortunately Aaron Ramsey is back to full fitness and now a fixture in the Arsenal team.
Also, there's no way this one was intentional. Just look at Shawcross' reaction after seeing what he's done. He looks like he just wants to put his arm around Ramsey.
Alan Smith
5 of 10A rare broken leg that doesn't come in a challenge. Smith simply breaks it whilst blocking a shot.
Look at Smith's reaction to Howard Webb and then Webb's reaction. Now that's true human compassion.
And a note to Cristiano Ronaldo: This kind of visible agony is justified. Think about that kind of pain next time you're rolling around on the floor after the most minimal contact.
Edgar Andrade
6 of 10You probably won't understand a word of the commentary, but the images speak for themselves.
Andrade jars his ankle under the compression of his own body, and the result is not pleasant.
Steve Zakuani
7 of 10If you watch this video with the sound on, the audio is as harrowing as the images. You can literally hear the impact of the challenge.
Marcos Mondaini
8 of 10The defender's entire body weight crushes Mondaini's left leg, and the bone simply succumbs to the load.
The reaction of the other players is more out of disbelief than anything else.
Unknown
9 of 10This is the closest to a car crash you'll get in football. With is leg flying through at full velocity, our victim smashes into the defender's studs, and the rest you can guess.
Concha
10 of 10The closeup camera, the slow-motion, the tackle.
As we've seen, the player sliding is normally the perpetrator is these collisions, but here the tables are turned in the most awful way.
As Concha slides in, Macchambes Younga-Mouhani stamps down on the helpless man and crushes his bone. Brutal.
