Heisman Trophy Odds: Wisconsin Badgers QB Russell Wilson Assumes Control

Jeff GrantOct 2, 2011

The role of Heisman Trophy favorite has shifted from Northern California to Madison, WI, due to a prime-time performance by a quarterback that transferred during the offseason.

Wisconsin Badgers signal-caller Russell Wilson (+300) completed 14 of 20 passes for 255 yards and two touchdowns in Saturday's 48-17 win over the Nebraska Cornhuskers, giving him 13 scoring strikes through the air and just a single interception.

His current quarterback rating is 51.8 points higher than his career high, which was set during his sophomore campaign at NC State.

The two-sport star has a week off before continuing Big Ten Conference play, as he's likely to put up big numbers when hosting the Indiana Hoosiers on Oct. 15.

Andrew Luck (+500) came off his bye week to lead the Stanford Cardinal to a 45-19 win over the UCLA Bruins, connecting on 23 of 27 pass attempts for 227 yards and three touchdowns.

The potential No. 1 pick in next year's NFL draft has also thrown just one interception, while connecting on 11 touchdown passes in four games.

Don't be surprised if the Houston native jumps ahead of Wilson after facing the Colorado Buffaloes at home this upcoming Saturday.

Rounding out the top five hopefuls in terms of betting odds are:  Oklahoma Sooners quarterback Landry Jones (+500), Alabama Crimson Tide running back Trent Richardson (+650) and Michigan Wolverines quarterback Denard Robinson (+800).

Expect a lot more movement in this race over the next few weeks, as all five players play for teams that have yet to suffer a loss this season.
