John Brantley Reportedly Will Not Play for Florida vs. LSU
The worst fear for the Florida Gators has been realized.
After sustaining what appeared to be a very serious right knee contortion that had him writhing in pain, John Brantley was swiftly hobbled off the field by trainers into the Florida locker room in the Saturday game versus the Alabama Crimson Tide.
No one knew the extent of the injury until now.
Reportedly, a close contact with the star quarterback stated that Brantley is not expected to play against LSU, but didn't give more information as to his recovery.
So what does this mean for the Florida Gators? A loss to the LSU Tigers. There is no way around the fact that without Brantley, Florida will falter to the No. 1 ranked Tigers team.
Back-up quarterback Jeff Driskel has thrown for two interceptions and no touchdowns and has a 44 percent completion rate so far this season. Against arguably the second-best defense in the nation (the No. 1 honor has to go to the Crimson Tide), this simply will not be a contest.
Rainey and Demps were slowed to the point of near negative yardage against Alabama this past Saturday and unless some serious changes occur to their rush offense, the same story will occur against LSU next Saturday.
However, football is a game of chance where the unexpected happens frequently. Maybe Trey Burton or Jeff Driskel can mount an epic game against the LSU Tigers. Maybe Rainey and Demps can go back to being two of the most feared running backs with a huge bounce-back game.
Maybe, but I wouldn't put money on it.
One thing is for certain though. All of college football wishes John Brantley a speedy recovery this season for his sake, and the sake of the Gators.
