Manchester City Transfers: 5 Possible Replacements for Carlos Tevez

Thomas AtzenhofferOct 3, 2011

The jury in Manchester City is finally out on their 27-year-old Argentine former Captain.

Carlos Tevez showed drive and endeavor like few before him over the past two seasons, pushing to help take Manchester City to the top spots in the EPL.

However, his constant lack of respect to keep his mouth shut or his attitude in check has finally turned the fans on him, despite trying to regain their respect after demanding a transfer that never happened over the summer.

Last week's bust up with Roberto Mancini and his refusal to play looks to have been the final straw and he is more than certain to be gone come January.

Now that his departure is imminent, the Blues are certain to be looking to add an additional attacker and here are five possible players they could target as the replacement for their departing Argentine.

Alvaro Negredo

1 of 5

So far this season between 11 appearances for the Spanish national team and those for his La Liga club, Sevilla FC, Alvaro Negredo has slotted in six goals and provided one assist.

With 70 goals and 21 assists in all competitions across the last three seasons, the Spaniard could be more than willing to swap his side that is struggling for UEFA Champions League qualification for a chance to push for the EPL title.

Dries Mertens

2 of 5

Twelve goals in 15 total games plus an assist so far for PSV Eindhoven's 24-year-old Belgian striker is by no means a great start to the season.

With Manchester City looking to build depth with some younger signings, this could prove a cost-effective move with less of an ego issue, considering whoever comes in will be playing behind Sergio Aguero and Edin Dzeko.

Giusseppe Rossi

3 of 5

Last season between all competitions, American-born Italian international striker Giusseppe Rossi of Villarreal scored 32 goals and provided nine assists.

So far this season, he has three La Liga goals to his name and another two international goals and single assist.

At 24 years of age he still has a great deal of time to improve, and has grown leaps and bounds since his failed time at Manchester United.

Edinson Cavani

4 of 5

Edinson Cavani rose through the ranks at Palermo for four seasons starting to make a name for himself in the 2008-09 season when he scored 14 total goals and attributed four assists across the entire campaign.

The following season in 2009-10 he scored another 13 goals for the Sicilian-based club, which convinced Napoli to sign him the following season.

It appeared to have been a stroke of genius—the Uruguayan exploded on the Serie A with 26 goals and six assists during the Neapolitans run to a third place finish and the UEFA Champions League.

Manchester City could be tempted to try and spend big money for Cavani because he has that irreplaceable South American desire to score that has been such a key to success for the Eastlands club.

Klaas-Jan Huntelaar

5 of 5

So far the 28-year-old Dutch attacker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar of Schalke 04 in the German Bundesliga has seven goals in eight games during the regular league campaign.

However, if you look across the board to include the German Cup, Champions League and his Netherlands international appearances, the former Real Madrid and AC Milan man has 16 goals in 16 games plus two assists.

He is the same age as Robin Van Persie, less injury prone and could be a less expensive buy.
