College Football Rankings 2011: Georgia Tech, 3 Most Underrated Teams in Poll
With rankings comes disagreement, as there are several top-notch teams that are certainly due more recognition than they have gotten thus far.
There are, of course, those teams that have gotten their credit, as Clemson, Michigan and Auburn are three teams that have climbed in the rankings more so than most could have imagined.
After the newest release of the AP Top 25 teams, inevitably there are teams with a bone to pick after looking at the rankings. Georgia Tech is one of the handful of teams in the nation that is more than capable of cracking the Top 10, yet the Yellow Jackets rank No. 13 in the AP Top 25.
These are the three teams that are the most underrated based on the most current AP Top 25.
No. 3: West Virginia
1 of 3Despite losing to LSU this season, West Virginia has played sound football this season and is off to a 4-1 start through five games.
In their most recent outing, the Mountaineers beat Bowling Green by a score of 55-10, proving their worth as one of the more dominant teams in college football. Aside from their double-digit loss to No. 1-ranked LSU, the Mountaineers have dominated three of the five teams played and are certainly a team to be reckoned with.
Despite their second half against the Terrapins and a loss to LSU, the Mountaineers are easily one of the complete teams in all of college football. The team boasts the sixth-best passing offense and No. 13 offense overall in the nation.
No. 2: Texas
2 of 3The Texas Longhorns are 4-0 and cruising, winning on the road at UCLA and Iowa State in their two most recent victories.
The Longhorns have been doing it with defense and a decent offensive game, holding teams to just 14.8 points per game. The big question mark with the Longhorns is whether or not they are capable of beating some of the more elite teams in college football.
Next week when they host the No. 3-ranked Oklahoma Sooners, the nation will get to see what these Longhorns are actually made of.
No. 1: Georgia Tech
3 of 3The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets are easily the most underrated team in the AP Top 25 this week, as they are currently in the No. 13 spot.
The 5-0 Yellow Jackets are 2-0 in ACC play and beat solid football programs in North Carolina and North Carolina State in back-to-back games, beating North Carolina State on the road.
The team will host the Maryland Terrapins next week, followed by a big game against the Virginia Cavaliers on the road. Georgia Tech also boasts the No. 1 rushing offense in the nation, recording nearly 380 yards a game.
Talk about some numbers.
There is no question the Yellow Jackets are underrated in this week's poll, given their big-time success as of late and dominant running game.
