College Football Recruiting 2013: The Top Early Commitments

Edwin WeathersbyOct 2, 2011

Recruiting starts earlier and earlier every year folks, Mack Brown will tell you that. So it's never too early to take a quick look at next year's class of prospects.

For this read, I'm going to just give you a quick peek at a few top 2013 players who have already made their commitments. They still have nearly two calendar years to sign their LOI, but as it looks right now, these prospects are locked up already.

Here are some top 2013 commitments.

6. Tramel Terry, DB

1 of 6

Terry is a 6'0", 185-pound super athlete who works as a WR or corner. He's extremely loose in the hips, light on his feet and speedy.

Terry was leaning toward in-state South Carolina, but has committed to Georgia. The last big-name player who left the Palmetto state for Athens was A.J. Green, and we all know how his career turned out for UGA.

5. Shane Morris, QB

2 of 6

A 6'3" southpaw from Michigan, Morris is headed to, well, Michigan. Brady Hoke loves his skill set and makeup, and Morris is an elite QB prospect for the 2013 class.

He chose Michigan over Michigan State and Syracuse, among a few others, and should be a joy for Al Borges to develop and work with in Ann Arbor.

4. O.J. Howard, TE/LB

3 of 6

Howard is a big and athletic TE who is good to go right now. He's 6'5", 215 pounds and can do it all from the middle of the field, but can also be used as a joker type.

Howard wasted no time in his recruitment and pledged to Alabama. There's a good chance he could play LB in Tuscaloosa.

3. Brice Ramsey, QB

4 of 6

Ramsey has drawn comparisons to Matthew Stafford, but he doesn't have much experience since he's been a backup the past few years.

But people in the know will tell you that the 6'3", 200-pounder has a chance to be special. He's got a cannon for an arm and can fit the ball in the tightest of windows. Ramsey has committed to Georgia.

2. Derrick Henry, RB

5 of 6

Henry is a huge RB with great speed to boot. He stands 6'2", weighs 235 pounds and has sub-4.5 speed. He's already topped 5,000 yards in his prep career.

Henry is the best junior in the Sunshine State and had more than 40 offers. This battle came to be down to Florida and Georgia, with Georgia winning out.

1. Reuben Foster, LB

6 of 6

Foster is a 6'1", 230-pound LB who Scout.com says would be a 5-star recruit if he were a 2012 player. He's a super instinctive thumper type that I think may be the top LB prospect for 2013 right now.

Foster is so good that Alabama and Georgia offered him when he was a freshman in high school. He has since committed to Alabama.
