College Football Rankings Week 6: 5 Biggest Pushovers in the Top 25 Ranking

Matt ShetlerOct 2, 2011

The cream of the crop have risen to the top of the latest polls. There are some really good teams and there are some pushovers littering the middle of the Top 25.

While there are some teams that have won some big games early on this season, there are those that haven't beaten anyone yet—they may hold onto their spots due to their past reputations.

What we are looking at here are five teams that really just aren't that good.

Let's take a quick look.

No. 21 Virginia Tech

1 of 5

I have the utmost respect for Frank Beamer and the product he continues to put on the field, but this current Hokies team really isn't that good.

They don't have the speed they normally have, and they can't get the ball down the field.

Through five weeks, they've lined up against one good team, Clemson, and got pushed around. Their previous four wins really don't mean much at this point except to help them become bowl eligible.

No. 23 Florida State

2 of 5

The same thing that applies to Virginia Tech applies to Florida State.

The Seminoles have all the talent in the world, but haven't quite shown up for every game.

Back to back losses to Oklahoma and Clemson, both very good teams, say that this Seminoles team was very overrated coming in.

They don't run the ball well, and the defense isn't what it was built up to be.

Wins against Louisiana-Monroe and Charleston Southern mean nothing.

Oklahoma and Clemson punched Florida State in the mouth and they didn't punch back.

No. 18 South Carolina

3 of 5

Too many close games for the Gamecocks. Eventually they were going to lose one.

If you keep playing these close games, you have to ask yourself if this team was really that good to begin with.

One thing is for sure though and that's quarterback Stephen Garcia will do his best to keep the opposing team in the game.

No. 24 Texas A&M

4 of 5

Really? Two weeks in a row?

Texas A&M may be the ultimate pushover on this list and that's a shame because they are very talented.

Eventually though, you have to be tough enough to close a team out and the Aggies haven't shown that they have that in them lately.

No. 17 Florida

5 of 5

I wanted to see how Florida would compete against a team that had similar—or better—talent and it wasn't pretty yesterday against Alabama.

The Gators got punched in the mouth and didn't respond.

Much of that has to do with injury. Like him or not, if quarterback John Brantley misses significant time, things could get very ugly.
