BCS Bowl Projections: Predicting the Top Bowls After Week 5's Games

John PattonOct 2, 2011

For five consecutive seasons, a school from the Southeastern Conference has won the BCS national championship.

So far, suggesting an SEC team will make it six straight is hardly a stretch.

While supporters of Oklahoma, Boise State and Wisconsin might disagree, the thought here is that Alabama and LSU (in that order) look like the two best teams in the country.

It is early, though, so a lot can change. But here are BCS bowl projections after five weeks of college football.

Allstate BCS National Championship Game

1 of 5

Date: Jan. 9, 2012

Location: New Orleans, La.

Projected Matchup: BCS No. 1 Alabama vs. BCS No. 2 Oklahoma

And the winner is...: The Crimson Tide makes it six straight for the SEC with a 31-17 victory. Running back Trent Richardson carries 22 times for 144 yards and two touchdowns to earn the Offensive Most Outstanding Player award, while linebacker Courtney Upshaw records eight tackles (two for loss), a sack and a forced fumble to take the Defensive MOP award.

Orange Bowl

2 of 5

Date: Jan. 4, 2012

Location: Miami, Fla.

Projected Matchup: Clemson (ACC champion) vs. West Virginia (Big East champ taking at-large bid)

And the winner is...: The Tigers will win a matchup, 32-16, that doesn't exactly excite the masses. The victory will allow Clemson to finish in the top-8, setting up a potential top-5 preseason ranking in 2012.

Sugar Bowl

3 of 5

Date: Jan. 3, 2012

Location: New Orleans, La.

Projected Matchup: LSU (SEC) vs. Boise State (at-large)

And the winner is...: In what would be the second-most anticipated bowl game behind the BCS title matchup, look for LSU to edge Boise State in a 38-34 shootout.

Fiesta Bowl

4 of 5

Date: Jan. 2, 2012

Location: Glendale, Ariz.

Projected Matchup: Oklahoma State (Big 12) vs. Michigan (at-large)

And the winner is...: In what should be a fun game, look for Wolverines' quarterback Denard Robinson to run for 150 yards and pass for 175 as Michigan tops Oklahoma State, 31-28.

Rose Bowl

5 of 5

Date: Jan. 2, 2012

Location: Pasadena, Cal.

Projected Matchup: Wisconsin (Big Ten) vs. Stanford (Pac-12)

And the winner is...: Stanford will have the best player in quarterback Andrew Luck, but Wisconsin will have the better team. The Badgers win 27-21.
