College Football Rankings Week 6: Kansas State and 3 Teams Ready for Top 25

Richard LangfordOct 2, 2011

There are going to be at least three new teams in the Top 25 this week. This was a fabulous week of football with plenty of upsets and with conference play in full effect we have a much better feel for the pretenders vs. contenders.

Here are three that separated themselves as contenders.

Kansas State

Kansas State played a great game against No. 15 Baylor and won a 36-35 thriller. The win moves Kansas State to 4-0 on the year, and it comes on the heels of their impressive win against Miami the week before.

Kansas State's defense is certainly a bit shaky, but their record cannot and will not be denied by voters. They will be in the Top 25 in Week 6.

Washington

The Huskies traveled to Utah to play a feisty Utah team and in front of a hostile crowd. The team an the crowd were both jacked up to host their first ever Pac-12 conference game.

The Huskies destroyed them 31-14, and improved to 4-1 in the process.

It was their finest defensive showing of the season. There were no questions about their balanced offense, and no voters have seen that their defense doesn't have to be a pushover every week.

Pitt

Pitt absolutely embarrassed No. 16 South Florida, 44-17. This game was close at halftime 20-17, and then Pitt took over on offense and defense.

They are just 3-2 on the year, so they may not make the Top 25 this week, but they are ready. They were close and looked good in both their losses against tough competition to Iowa and Notre Dame.

Pitt's defensive line will keep them in most games, and I expect they will get in the Top 25 and stay there as they look to be the class of the Big East.
