World Football: 3 High-Profile Managers Who Will Be Fired in October

Stefan GouyetOct 3, 2011

Europe's top leagues have been back in action for over a month now, and it's clear which teams are doing well and which ones are struggling.

For the sides that are performing under expectations, the scapegoat is almost always going to be the coach. There have been countless managerial changes in past seasons, with teams choosing to make switches at the top to begin a rise in form.

With over a month of league action already played, it's clear which coaches are in trouble.

Here's a list of three managers in Europe's top leagues that face the sack this month.

Juan Carlos Garrido (Villareal)

1 of 3

Villareal have had a tough beginning to the season. Their Champions League campaign has begun with two defeats to Bayern Munich and Napoli, in which the Yellow Submarine scored no goals. Their La Liga season has started poorly as well, as they sit in 13th place with six points from six games.

Villareal have been one of Spain's top clubs for a long time and have high expectations each year. It's evident that the team have been way below those expectations in the beginning of this season.

Juan Carlos Garrido has been great at the helm of Villareal since his appointment early last year. He guided the team to an applaudable fourth-place finish in La Liga and to the semifinals of the Europa League.

His success last season won't matter, though, if Villareal keep dropping points like they did last Saturday at home to Zaragoza.

Francis Gillot (Girondins Bordeaux)

2 of 3

Bordeaux won the Ligue 1 title in 2008 and many people thought that this would be the start of a good future for the French side. But, as it often happens, FCGB simply lost their form and their star players, and have now faded away.

In June this year, Bordeaux hired Francis Gillot to manage the club after the departure of Eric Bedouet. Things haven't gone to plan under the new coach, with FCGB winning one in nine league matches so far. They sit in 14th place and have a goal difference of minus-three.

It's not always a good idea—or a nice one—to fire a new manager, but one win in nine is unacceptable. Gillot needs to jump start Bordeaux's season soon or he will be fired by the end of the month.

Steve Kean (Blackburn Rovers)

3 of 3

Steve Kean was appointed caretaker manager of Blackburn in December and was given a three-year contract a month later. Kean replaced the well-liked Sam Allardyce at Ewood Park and had the difficult task of obtaining the fans' support.

Kean had an overall mediocre first six months for Blackburn, leading the club to a 15th-place finish.

This season it has been much worse. Rovers have picked up four points in seven matches and have already allowed in 17 goals.

At the end of Blackburn's defeat to Manchester City on Saturday, the Ewood Park faithful displayed their anger by chanting and holding up posters calling for Kean's sacking. Rovers' owners, Venky's Limited, will certainly fire the Scotsman if results don't improve.
