Jaamal Berry: Ohio State Running Back in the Middle of Bizarre Campus Incident

The Ohio State Buckeyes have been saddled with news that is both scary and bizarre. 

ESPN reports Buckeyes tailback and kick returner Jaamal Berry has been involved in an on-campus altercation. Berry allegedly wrestled a student to the ground. When campus officials came to question Berry, they found that he was disoriented and unable to answer basic questions. 

Berry has not been charged with any sort of assault infraction. The thought is that his health is far more concerning than anything at the moment. 

He was confused and disoriented when confronted and couldn't piece together vital emergency contact information. 

The campus newspaper The Lantern, had a breakdown of the odd occurrence as it happened: 

"

At about 10:25 a.m., two males were witnessed "wrestling on the ground" in the South Oval, according to the police report. The primary witness is a university employee who declined to comment, but said in the police report that Berry was muttering things such as "I don't know what is going on around me."

The report said Berry "appeared confused and disoriented and was unable to tell me his name."

The OSU police officer on the scene observed that Berry was "mentally unable to provide me with any of his emergency contact information," and Berry voluntarily went to the OSU emergency department.

The victim that Berry was wrestling with was said to have "sustained bruises on his neck from this event."

Berry was taken to OSU Medical Center, treated, then released. According to the ESPN report, Ohio State team spokesman Jerry Emig said in a statement:

"Medical professionals ran a battery of tests on [Berry]. So far, no medical issue has been identified but the evaluation is continuing. No legal issues are involved."

The first thought that comes to mind is for the health and safety of all involved. We sincerely hope that the victim rebounds from whatever injuries he sustained in the scuffle. 

For Berry, we can only hope that things are back to normal as soon as possible. It is a scary thought to imagine a person so out of their wits as not to remember names and numbers. 

The one good thing may be that Berry is now receiving the care that he may have needed prior to the assault.
