College Football Picks Week 5: Notre Dame and 3 Overrated Teams That Will Roll
You don't need to be ranked to be overrated. As a matter of fact, two of these teams aren't even ranked. But they are all overrated.
Because of big names and past accomplishments, we seem to be waiting for the moments where these teams finally come out and let us know that they are back.
Unfortunately for fans of these schools, it's just not likely to happen this year. Still, false hope awaits all three of these teams.
All three teams are strong bets to win convincingly. Eventually, they will get a reality check. Their Week 5 opponents just aren't the ones who will administer them.
Notre Dame
Maybe it's because I am a frustrated Notre Dame fan who has just not seen a very good football team yet this year.
Even in Notre Dame's wins, they have been flat. They turn the ball over way too much for a team that still has outside BCS Bowl hopes.
The schedule isn't really tough from here on out until Stanford, but there are plenty of teams who can beat the Irish.
Purdue isn't really one of them. Given that they beat Middle Tennessee by three points and lost to Rice, it's hard to see them beating Notre Dame.
Still, Notre Dame has a long way to go before it deserves to even be considered for a spot in the top 25.
Ohio State
Despite the scandals and suspensions, Ohio State is not a bad team. But the thought that they are an actual threat in the Big 10 is still a little bit laughable.
Fortunately, the Buckeyes are lined up against an equally overrated Michigan State team. Both of these teams have failed miserably in their toughest games of the season.
Because Ohio State is at home and Columbus is still a very difficult place to play, I am going to go with them to win this one. Still, I am not seeing either of these teams being big factors in the Big 10 championship race.
West Virginia
I don't know if West Virginia isn't a great team, if they ran into an LSU buzz saw, or both. I don't think West Virginia is bad. But based on what we saw against LSU and what we saw in the first three games, I don't feel all that bad calling West Virginia overrated.
They may be overrated, but that doesn't mean that Bowling Green will take them out.
The Mountaineers have the weapons in place to beat Bowling Green relatively easily. Actually, West Virginia has the weapons to bounce back and win the Big East.
But based on what we saw against LSU, it's hard to see West Virginia mounting much of a fight against a BCS team in a bowl.
