Alabama vs. Florida: Tide Will Roll Through Gators in SEC Clash of the Titans
Florida has looked awfully impressive this year. The Gators are 4-0 and have outscored their opponents 161-36.
Unfortunately, they haven't exactly beaten the stiffest of competition. Their best win came against a previously unbeaten Tennessee team. But the Volunteers are still an unproven team, so we don't know how good that win was.
With convincing wins against both Penn State and Arkansas, we know what Alabama has. A. J. McCarron is still a little unproven as a quarterback, but Trent Richardson and Marquis Maze are genuine stars on the offense.
Alabama's defense is simply one of the best in the country.
They are just too proven a team to think that Florida will prevail in this one.
Now, let's assume for a second that Florida wins.
They will then be 5-0 with one very impressive win. The Gators would go from a talented but unproven team to a legitimate National Championship contender in the matter of a couple hours.
Let's not completely discount that possibility.
While the two teams don't play every year, Alabama hasn't won in Gainesville since 1999.
But in this game, Alabama is just too talented. Their offense will do more than enough to score on Florida. The Gators offense will score, just not enough.
Based on what we've seen this year, it's really hard to imagine Alabama losing before their November 5 showdown against LSU.
For Florida to win this game, they will need big games from John Brantley, Chris Rainey, and Jeff Demps.
Given the pure athleticism of those players, that’s certainly not impossible. Still, Alabama is a far more proven team against more comparable competition.
Don’t get me wrong, Florida is tougher than any team Alabama has faced thus far. But tape and memories of games against Arkansas and Penn State will give Alabama a much better sense of what to expect against Florida than anything the Gators have experienced.
I like the Gators’ offense to have some great moments in this one. The Florida fans will have some stuff to cheer about. Those moments won’t come at the end of the game.
The Tide just has too many weapons.
Prediction: Alabama 31, Florida 21
