Utah Football: Key Players from Washington's Offense, Defense and Special Team
Washington Huskies vs. Utah Utes
Kickoff time: 4:00 PM PST
Salt Lake City, UT
This Saturday the matchup between the Huskies and Utes will have major implications in the race for the Pac-12 divisional standings.
The Huskies come into this game at 3-1 (1-0) and tied for first place in the Pac-12 North.
The Utes, on the other hand, have a little bit more work to do, coming in at 2-1 (0-1) in the conference with that lone loss being to USC.
Both teams could greatly use a win this Saturday to keep their lofty postseason dreams alive.
Washington’s Offense
1 of 3Keith Price: Quarterback
Price has been a blessing in disguise for the Huskies offense.
After having to replace the legend that is Jake Locker, a battle between Price and Nick Montana (Joe Montana’s son) ensued, eventually ending in Price being named starter. Price has completed 75-of-112 passes for 983 yards with 14 touchdowns and only three interceptions.
Chris Polk: Running Back
While Polk has surprisingly succeeded, it’s been long known how great he is. So far Polk has rushed for a team leading 422 yards with three touchdowns.
Devin Aguilar: Wide Receiver
Take your pick of which Huskies receiver you want to stop on defense, they have three others to beat you with (James Johnson, Jermaine Kearse, and Austin Seferian-Jenkins). Aguilar leads the team with 253 yards in receptions and a touchdown on the season as well.
Washington’s Defense
2 of 3Alameda Ta'amu: Defensive Tackle
Ta’amu is easily the Huskies’ best defensive player, being a plug in the middle on defense. Ta’Amu has 11 tackles as well as two tackles for loss and a sack.
Cort Dennison: Middle Linebacker
As one of the Huskies best defensive studs, Dennison leads the team with 34 tackles and 3.5 tackles for loss.
Desmond Trufant: Cornerback
Trufant has been all over the place in the Huskies secondary, picking off two passes and leading the team. Trufant is key to shutting down the Utes’ offense.
Washington’s Special Teams
3 of 3Erik Folk: Kicker
Folk is one of the best, if not the best, kickers in the entire Pac-12. Folk has converted 6-of-7 of field goal attempts for a long of 53 yards.
Kiel Rasp: Punter
Rasp has been the primary punter for the Huskies instead of Will Mahan, the starter in 2010. Rasp has 12 punts for an average of 42.9 yards with two going inside the 20-yard line.
Jesse Callier: Kick Returner
The Huskies don’t have a return man who has brought a kick or punt back for a score, but they’ve gotten very close. Callier is the leading kickoff return man with 15 returns for an average of 25.4 yards and a long of 55.
