College Football Recruiting 2012: September's Winners and Losers
September is just about gone and October is just about here. Summer's over and fall is in full swing, so while you're getting ready for Halloween in the next few weeks, be sure to keep your eyes here for recruiting information.
For this read, we're just going to do a quick rundown of some winners and losers of September from a recruiting point of view.
Come see if your favorite program made the cut either way!
Loser: Miami
1 of 5You know what? I'm in the school of thought that feels maybe, just maybe, Miami officials were misleading during Al Golden's interview process.
Golden should have been informed of potential sanctions and situations, yet he wasn't. Now, after he has assembled what could be a potential top 10 recruiting class, Golden is starting to see his class look around.
Trent Taylor just bolted for Tennessee, Keith Brown will take a couple trips and Jelani Hamilton is eyeing LSU and North Carolina.
Winner: Nebraska
2 of 5Now, I know I've been pretty hard on Big Red this recruiting cycle, but this month they got some great news.
What makes Nebraska September-winners is they got word that they will likely be the only in-season visit for 5-star OT Andrus Peat. Peat will travel to Lincoln likely in November.
Then, they also learned that 5-star OG prospect Josh Garnett also likely will pay them a visit this fall or winter. Plus they got a commitment from dual threat star QB Tommy Armstrong.
Good month for the Cornhuskers.
Loser: USC
3 of 5The Trojans are happy to see September end, as they come back to Troy licking their wounds from that 43-22 loss to Arizona State in Tempe.
But what really got them on this list for me was to learn that Arik Armstead's verbal has reduced to a "soft verbal" and he will trip to Notre Dame and Alabama this fall.
Not the best month for the Trojans.
Loser: Ohio State
4 of 5As time was moving forward, I was starting to believe that maybe Luke Fickell had made significant progress in convincing Brionte Dunn to stay committed.
Wrong. Dunn just got back from an unofficial visit to Penn State and says he's "confused." He doesn't know what to do and now will officially visit Michigan and Penn State as well as Ohio State.
Confusion usually isn't good when you're supposed to be pledged to a school.
Winner: Florida
5 of 5Any time you can get a player who is committed to another school to make a trip to yours is a great coup.
Any time that player is committed to your arch rival, that makes it even sweeter.
Florida has convinced DE Dante Fowler, who's a Florida State commit, to come see them play three times this season. Fowler will unofficially visit Gainesville when the Gators play Alabama this weekend and also for the Vanderbilt and Florida State games.
