Manchester City's Carlos Tevez: 5 Worst Moments in His Career

Yoosof FarahSep 30, 2011

Banished Manchester City star Carlos Tevez added another well-documented chapter to a career fraught with acrimony after he infamously refused to play against Bayern Munich in the UEFA Champions League.

The 27-year-old has never been one to shy away from controversy, and he has slowly gone from being one of the most respected players in world football to one of the most hated.

An angel-like footballer on the pitch, Tevez is seemingly anything but off of it.

Here are the five worst moments in the career of Carlos Tevez so far.

Joining Manchester City

1 of 5

If Carlos Tevez wanted to come across as a decent footballer whose main passion was the love of the game, he certainly didn't achieve that by joining Manchester City.

And if he wanted to endear himself to past employers Manchester United, who gave him his break at the very highest level despite the various complications with Premier League regulations, he definitely didn't do that either.

Considering the story he would later give about wanting to leave the Eastlands club, as well as all the other dramas he'd had at Man City, joining the team in the first place was quite possibly one of the most ludicrous things he could have done.

Handing in Transfer Request

2 of 5

If Carlos Tevez wanted to metaphorically spit in the face of everyone connected with Manchester City, he certainly achieved that after handing in a transfer request.

He claimed his relationship with some of the board of directors had "broken down beyond repair," and also cited family issues—i.e. the fact his wife and two daughters couldn't settle in England, and he felt lonely living in his Cheshire mansion on his own.

These comments came despite the fact these were the same men who reportedly agreed to give Tevez £286,000-a-week to play for the club for five years.

Handing in that transfer request was the start of a very slippery slope for the Argentine, with the animosity ever increasing between Tevez and certain people at Manchester City.

Disrespecting Manchester

3 of 5

As if Carlos Tevez hadn't trash talked enough about Manchester United and Manchester City, he then decided to go one further on a chat show in Argentina and disrespect the city of Manchester itself.

He claimed, "There is nothing to do in Manchester. There are two restaurants, everything is small. It rains all the time, you can't go anywhere."

"I will not return to Manchester. Not for vacation, not anything."

After such a grossly inaccurate statement, Carlos Tevez ruined any last bit of rapport he had with Manchester City and their fans with that interview.

Here is the video of that interview.

Refusing to Play

4 of 5

Possibly the worst thing any footballer could ever do, Carlos Tevez did the unspeakable when he refused to come on as a substitute in Manchester City's Group A UEFA Champions League encounter with Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena.

After the match, he tried to limit the damage claiming he hadn't refused to play and that there'd been a "misunderstanding," but these comments went down like a lead balloon with almost everyone in the world football community.

The whole episode turned out to be the most ludicrous moment in Tevez's career and gave widespread condemnation in footballing circles across the globe.

Refusing to Apologise

5 of 5

After the events told in the previous slide, it has emerged that Carlos Tevez has refused to apologise to his Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini for what happened in Munich.

According to the BBC, Tevez believes his teammates will back his version of events and does not feel any need whatsoever to say sorry for what happened.

In what could be the worst move of his career so far, the Argentine has proven himself as one of the biggest villains in world football.
