Arsenal vs. Olympiakos: 5 Best Arsenal Performers from The Champions League Tie

Omar AlmasriJun 7, 2018

As many of you probably know, Arsenal won a hard-fought tie against Greek giants Olympiakos at the Emirates Stadium 2-1. It wasn't a convincing performance, but there were some standout performances and players.

In this article, I'll be listing five players who starred and were among the better Gunner performers on Wednesday night.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain

1 of 6

After scoring in the Carling Cup against Shrewsbury, young prospect Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain did it again against Olympiakos and scored a good goal to become the youngest English player ever to score in the Champions League.

Chamberlain is settling very well for the Gunners and was causing the Greek side lots of problems with his direct running, vision and creativity. He is proving to be a very good signing for the club.

Chamberlain has a bright future ahead of him.

Mikel Arteta

2 of 6

Mikel Arteta is proving to be a shrewd and excellent signing for the Gunners and has continued his good form with a very good performance against Olympiakos.

Arteta was comfortable and tidy with his passes. The thing that I like about him the most is that he never stops running and always tries to help out the team, especially defensively with that excellent block off the line in the first half.

Arteta did well and I hope he continues with his fine performances.

Andre Santos

3 of 6

Another new signing scores for the Gunners. Andre Santos grabbed his first goal for the club, after a mix-up in the Olympiakos.

Santos had a good match, making good runs down the left hand side and was alright defensively as well. I Hope Santos keeps this up and proves himself as a smart signing by Wenger.

Per Mertesacker

4 of 6

The tall German performed very well, especially in the second half and is beginning to settle with the club. He made some vital interceptions and tackles, and led the back line well, along with Alex Song.

He is improving game by game and is proving to be an excellent signing and a key defensive player for the Gunners.

Alex Song

5 of 6

My man of the match, the Cameroonian defensive midfielder who played as a central defender, was excellent and rarely put a foot wrong in defence.

Song was key to Arsenal's win and he and Mertesacker were superb, especially in the second half. Song also laid off an excellent assist for Chamberlain to score from and was excellent all around.

Conclusion

6 of 6

These were my best five Arsenal performers in the Olympiakos match. Honorable mentions go to Bakary Sagna, who made up for his poor showing in the second half, and to Emmanuel Frimpong.

Who were your best five Arsenal performers?
