South Carolina Football: Over/Under Against Auburn
These Gamecocks have already been called the most overrated team in the top 10 and in the nation. Many "experts" (CBS Sports and Mark May) say despite an undefeated record, the Gamecocks will not last in the gauntlet known as the SEC.
There are a few road tests on the horizon, but up first are the Auburn Tigers, who many think will give Cocky and the boys a difficult time.
So, let's play a little game I like to call "Over/Under" on many stats, facts, opinions and predictions on this Saturday's game.
100 Yards for Michael Dyer: Over or Under?
1 of 5Dyer comes into this game as one of the top rushers in the SEC and is currently ranked 21st in the nation, averaging 106 per game.
Auburn's offense often goes where Dyer does, and it is imperative for the South Carolina run defense to come up big again.
The Gamecocks are only 61st, allowing 137 yards a game, but the front four is deep and loaded with talent. Plus, they are coming off a performance where they allowed the Commodores to only run for four yards on 25 attempts.
Melvin Ingram has been sensational thus far, but the play from Jadevon Clowney and Devin Taylor certainly could allow their linebackers to make huge plays behind the line of scrimmage.
Drama's Call: UNDER
150 Yards for Marcus Lattimore: Over or Under?
2 of 5Let's face it folks, Marcus Lattimore is a beast, and he may very well be on top of the Heisman rankings at the moment (he is on mine). Also, this team just thrives off his play, and it clearly sets things up in the passing game for Stephen Garcia.
Lattimore is third in the nation, averaging 152 yards a game, so I ask whether or not he will be able to crack that against an Auburn run defense that allows 226! That is only good for 112th in the nation, and this game should be decided at the line of scrimmage.
Being the best downhill runner in the nation should allow Lattimore to feast on a poor tackling/angle Auburn defense.
It will be a four quarter battle and should be tight early; however, having this primetime game at home will only help Lattimore make a few Heisman voters watch closely.
Drama's Call: OVER
6.5 Catches for Alshon Jeffery: Over or Under?
3 of 5Averaging only 3.5 catches a game is an atrocious number to have for an All-American receiver, and struggling early on in this season with quarterback Stephen Garcia has been brutal to watch at times.
Getting Jeffery involved in as many passing downs as possible would be a start, but how about throwing him the ball on first down?
Lattimore can run the rock whenever you want him to and establishing the run is key, but giving your playmakers an opportunity to succeed is vital.
Sammy Watkins was able to just torch this pass defense that is allowing 251 per game (90th). If Jeffery cannot do the same, this game will come down to the wire. There are other options besides Jeffery to move the chains, but right now, nobody is making an impact in the passing game.
Look for this game to change things, and I expect Jeffery to finally have his coming out party against an Auburn defense that has been known this season to allow a chunk of yards.
Drama's Call: OVER
350 Total Yards Allowed: Over or Under?
4 of 5Auburn comes into this game averaging 373 yards a game (78th), and they are looking to hang 400-plus yards to have any legit chance of pulling off the upset.
Can South Carolina limit the big plays like they did against Vanderbilt? The different athletes and playmakers are known with Dyer, McCalebb and Blake, but I still question if their offensive line can hold up for four quarters.
This Gamecocks' front wall is starting to slowly turn into one of the best in the SEC and in America. The freaks are starting to come off blocks and make plays behind the line of scrimmage, which is putting the secondary in beautiful opportunities to come away with three-and-outs.
Barrett Trotter has been prone to making crucial mistakes when he is flushed outside the pocket, and he will have to be on target to rack up over 350 yards of offense. This South Carolina defense is allowing only 298 yards a game, and I believe they will be able to put on a clinic in the second half when they own the battle in the trenches.
Drama's Call: UNDER
10.5 Margin of Victory for South Carolina: Over or Under?
5 of 5This may be the toughest over/under to handle, but I wonder if this Gamecocks team can finally put together a complete game?
Luckily, they are at home in a crucial SEC battle in which many people are waiting for this team to fall apart.
How good is Auburn? They played great in the first half against Clemson and then just could not do jack. Can the same be said for this South Carolina team? They may not be as explosive in the passing game, but the stud athletes are there.
Marcus Lattimore will have a huge say in this game come the fourth quarter, and I do not see their defense getting gashed even against a spread offense with four wide receivers. Look for Spurrier to take a few chances downfield, with Alshon Jeffery and Ace Sanders in a game that could slowly turn into a mini-shootout.
Drama's Call: OVER
Drama's Pick: SOUTH CAROLINA 34, AUBURN 20
