College Football Recruiting 2012: 5 Schools Recruiting Worse Than They Should

Edwin WeathersbySep 29, 2011

With recruiting being so important, many schools realize every resource must be utilized to land talent. From location to facilities to coaches to uniforms and more, many programs have the resources to haul in good talent each year.

For this read, we're going to give you five schools that are not recruiting as well as they should. These schools have the resources, but so far they haven't gotten it done.

Here we go.

5. UCF

1 of 5

Central Florida is located near the Orlando area and is in Florida. Pretty much enough said, right? Sure, it's not Florida, Miami or Florida State, but it should get some good talent.

Right now, according to Scout.com, UCF has the 98th—yes, 98th—best class in the country. The Knights are coming off a bowl win over mighty Georgia and could be moving to the Big East or ACC in a few years.

Two commitments is not going to cut it.

4. Utah

2 of 5

Utah has moved into the Pac-12, has a great head coach and always finds itself as one of the better teams in college football. Yet this year ain't so great.

I have the Utes' current class as worst in the Pac-12 conference. Sure, there's time to make a move north on the list, but they shouldn't be there.

Kyle Whittingham can coach, they have ties to Pacific Islander football talent and now boast a BCS/AQ league patch on their chest. They should be doing better.

3. South Florida

3 of 5

USF is another team whose current class I rank worst in its conference. The Bulls are a sleeping giant, according to many around college football, due to their location and resources.

Sitting in the Tampa area with a good stadium, USF should be able to attract top-tier recruits. It plays in the Big East and has had some success on the field in recent years.

However, aside from TE commit Sean Price, its current 10-commit 2012 class isn't a fire-starter.

2. Nebraska

4 of 5

The Cornhuskers have the 61st-ranked class right now, according to Scout.com. That's not the norm for the Lincoln Legends.

Bo Pelini hauled in a top-25 class last year with a couple of elite prospects. This year, he only has seven pledges and the aforementioned 61st ranking.

There's hope for Big Red as Josh Garnett has said that he likely will trip to Nebraska, as will Andrus Peat.

1. Oregon

5 of 5

The Ducks may have an excuse for making this list as the Willie Lyles' scandal and continuing NCAA investigation have put a damper on their recruiting efforts.

However, with their facilities, exciting caliber of play, BCS championship appearance, stadium and of course uniform combination, I'd still be shocked if you told me they only have eight pledges.

The Ducks need to get going, but a couple elite recruits are seriously considering them.
