Arsenal vs Tottenham: Arsenal's Greatest Goals in the North London Derby

Khalid KhanJun 7, 2018

The North London Derby is one of the most intense rivalries in all of Europe.

The rivalry between Arsenal and Tottenham began in the early 1900s when Arsenal relocated to Highbury, which was just four miles away from Tottenham.

The rivalry escalated after World War I, when Arsenal was voted into the First division over Tottenham. Tottenham claimed there was some controversy behind it, which caused bad blood between both clubs. Thus, the North London derby was born.

Throughout the recent history of this derby, Arsenal have had the upper hand over their rivals and have scored many amazing goals in this fixture.

Tony Adams at Highbury (1996)

During the early Wenger days, Arsenal started showing that great free flowing football that Arsenal is known for today.

This goal is a perfect example of that. A great pass to Bergkamp, followed by a sublime flick of the ball finding a charging Tony Adams. The captain rifles the ball into the back of the net, making it one of Arsenal's greatest moments in this derby.

Brilliant Play from the Dutchman, Wonderful Goal!

Dennis Bergkamp's skill and quality just made your jaw drop. In this classic moment, Ian Wright does a superb dribble to shake off his defender and crosses it into the box, where it finds Bergkamp.

Bergkamp had a beautiful first touch on the ball, which allowed him to get away from the defender and slot it home.

The World Record Goal

After Tottenham leveled to tie at 1-1, Arsene Wenger decided to sub in Nicklas Bendtner before Arsenal were about to take a corner. Then, history was made.

The Danish striker scored off the corner and it was the fastest goal ever scored by a substitute at an astounding 1.8 seconds.

Van Persie's Half Century

4 of 12

This goal belongs on the list because it was Robin Van Persie's 50th goal for Arsenal. It was also with his weaker foot and he just hammered the ball into the back of the net.

I see Van Persie scoring more quality goals like that against those spuds in the near future.

From Hero to Villian

Before jumping ship to Tottenham, Emmanuel Adebayor was on the other side of this rivalry. During his time at Arsenal, he enjoyed torturing Tottenham.

He is the current record holder of goals in this particular derby with eight (all with Arsenal).

Adebayor!!!

Even though he is now the enemy, this goal was absolute quality from Adebayor. The ability to kick the ball up and then hit a tremendous half volley was a tremendous thing to watch.

Arsenal were not able to threaten the Tottenham goal until the end of the half with a great shot by Van Persie.

But wait that wasn't it.

As they resumed play after the goal, Fabregas jumped all over a lazy Tottenham defence and provided one of the best solo goals in Arsenal history.

Dynamite, Absolute Dynamite

Fabregas surprised the Tottenham defence with this long range effort that got Arsenal a vital win at White Hart Lane.

The goal was absolute dynamite.

I know this isn't a goal, but rather a whole match. But this type of match deserves to be in this slide because it's a classic

Arsenal Go Unbeaten

Another sentimental goal in this collection as Robert Pires sealed the Premier League for Arsenal as well as invincibility.

Pires Harassing Tottenham

Robert Pires has always been a pain in the butt for Tottenham during his time at Arsenal. And this is where it all began in 2000.

The Grand Finale

What collection of Arsenal goals would it be without including Thierry Henry.

In my opinion, this is the greatest goal scored in the North London Derby. This particular goal showed all the skills of Henry and showed how no one could stop him when he was on.

No wonder why he gave so many teams nightmares with that deadly quality.

This goal sums up Arsenal's quality throughout the years against Tottenham in the North London derby.

Hopefully you enjoyed it and maybe another memorable moment could happen this weekend as this rivalry is reignited.
