The Big 12 Conference: 3 Teams To Add That Would Stablilize the Conference

The Big 12 is now down to nine teams. 

Nine great schools with outstanding tradition. 

It would be a tragedy, in my opinion, if this once feared and highly respected conference were to disappear because of the current trend of musical conferences.  I do not think it is too late to salvage the damage that has been done internally.  Texas A&M is gone.  Well, that was their choice, and the Big 12 should just move on. 

If the Big 12 wants to survive, even thrive, and bring stability to its conference, I have three teams that would help do just that. Three teams that would be thankful to be part of a storied conference like the Big 12.  Three schools that would bring gratitude and new energy to the table.  Three teams that probably wouldn't mind the current method of revenue sharing, who knows, they might even settle for less.  After all, a small piece of a big pie is still a lot of pie.  

So who are these schools?  Well, it is probably no mystery.  Here is my list of three teams that the Big 12 should add immediately.    

Air Force

Air Force is an excellent school, and they bring a different flavor to the Big 12.  A legendary service academy like Air Force would bring fans from all over the world.  It would bring pageantry, tradition, excitement and patriotism to an already patriotic conference.  

With excellent football and basketball programs, Air Force would have no problem being competitive, and geographically they fit well.  

B.Y.U.

When Utah went to the Pac-12 you know BYU fans went nuts.  Brigham Young has been the Big Brother of the University of Utah for several decades.  BYU then reacted by going independent.  I don't know if that was the best choice, but nonetheless, that's what went down. 

I think that they would be more than happy to jump into the Big 12, if for nothing else, to thumb their noses at the University of Utah.  But seriously, BYU has an outstanding school, great tradition and a built in fanbase because of their religious ties.  They would absolutely be a loyal and proud addition to the BIg 12. 

Boise State

The Boise State Broncos would be a thankful, loyal and exciting addition to the Big 12.  The rivalry started in the Fiesta Bowl against Oklahoma would be great to see year after year. 

Boise State has elevated itself to a place on par with many other major universities.  It gets knocked for once being a junior college, but look at what it has done.  Adding Boise State to the Big 12 brings another kind of flavor to the conference.  An up and coming youngster hungry for victory, feeding on pride, hard work and blue collar principals.

The additions of BYU and Air Force would make Boise State fit just fine in the new geographic footprint that it would create. 

With the addition of these three schools the Big 12 would get itself three thankful and loyal partners.  Three schools that wouldn't be looking anywhere else.  Three schools that would bring tons of new fans, flavor, and variety.  It is the kind of shot in the arm the Big 12 needs right now.  

Plus it's just basic addition.  The Big 12 has nine schools (9+3=12). Add these three teams, and the Big 12 logo won't be false advertising.
