Braylon Edwards Injury: Updates on 49ers Star's Week 4 Status and Fantasy Value
San Francisco 49ers superstar WR Braylon Edwards has zero fantasy value heading into Week 4.
"“49ers wide receiver Braylon Edwards underwent a surgical procedure on his injured right knee, and a league source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter that Edwards is likely to miss three weeks,” according to ESPN’s staff.
"
He was dropped outright prior to Week 3 in two of my fantasy leagues because his value has diminished.

UPDATE: Sunday, Oct. 2 at 2:59 p.m. EDT
The San Francisco went today without Braylon Edwards, and the pass offense has been nothing but putrid even with Edwards in the lineup.
Against the Philadelphia Eagles in the first half, quarterback Alex Smith is just 9/17 with only 116 pass yards, making the mediocre 49ers offense look even worse.
UPDATE: Wednesday, Sept. 28 at 10:50 a.m. EDT
There isn't much news on the Braylon Edwards front as he is still expected to miss three weeks with a knee injury, but Eric Branch of the San Francisco Chronicle has confirmed that Edwards won't be making the trip to Philadelphia this week and will instead stay back to rehab.
Matt Maiocco of CSN Bay Area predicted that he would miss “several weeks” after the surgery.
ESPN’s John Clayton confirmed Edwards will be out for an unknown but extended period of time.
Equipped with Alex Smith and an inconsistent offense, Edwards failed to impress Week 1 against Seattle. He was forced out with his injury against Dallas in the first quarter after completing a 21-yard reception.
Edwards is fighting for a contract next offseason and is worthy of a bench-stash until he gets back on the field. I don’t condone dropping him outright like he was in my leagues because he is still the top threat in this offense.
Michael Crabtree returned Week 3 against Cincinnati from his bothersome foot injury. He played more than most expected and ran his routes well. He would have scored a touchdown had he not stepped out of bounds prior to the reception.
With Crabtree healthy, Edwards will produce when he returns. Crabtree is in his third year—generally when receivers break out. He will emerge as one of the better possession receivers in the game, which will give Edwards more room to work with.
I fully expect Braylon to produce down the stretch of the season, which is when fantasy owners desperately need impact players heading into the fantasy playoffs.
For now, don’t expect much from him as he recovers from the minor surgery. Considering he’s fighting for a contract, do not expect him to rush back to the field before he is fully healthy, because he will be on full display when he does.
We’ll have updates on his recovery throughout the week heading into Week 4 and beyond.
