College Football Rankings Week 5: Predicting Every Top 25 Team's Results

Randy ChambersSep 26, 2011

Week 5 of the college football season is almost here, and with several marquee matchups, the rankings look to change drastically.

With games like Texas A&M versus Arkansas, Clemson versus Virginia Tech, Alabama versus Florida and Nebraska versus Wisconsin, Week 5 looks to be the best week of the season.

Hope you don't have anything planned, as there are some must-watch games this weekend.

Here are the predictions for how every Top-25 team will perform on Saturday.

Bleacher Report is your home for college football for the 2011 season. From scores, news, analysis, live blogs and updates on your favorite teams and the big national games every week, keep it on Bleacher Report for the very latest in college football news.

No. 25 Arizona State Sun Devils

1 of 25

Oregon State couldn't beat some high school teams at this rate. The Sun Devils cruise easily and jump out to a fast 4-1 start.

No. 24 Illinois Fighting Illini

2 of 25

Illinois should start the season 5-0 with a win over Northwestern.

Although it's only a matter of time before Ron Zook messes it up, I don't think it'll be against a team that  ranks 103rd out of 120 teams in passing.

No. 23 Florida State Seminoles

3 of 25

Idle.

No. 22 West Virginia Mountaineers

4 of 25

West Virginia played well against No.1 LSU and surprised enough people to stay in the polls after a loss.

A victory over Bowling Green this week will get this team back on track, as they could run the table for the rest of the year.

No. 21 Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets

5 of 25

One of the best rushing teams in the country in Georgia Tech will face off against one of the worst in North Carolina State.

Um, I'll go with the team that's good at running the ball.

Yellow Jackets win.

No. 20 TCU Horned Frogs

6 of 25

Although the Horned Frogs haven't beaten anybody important, we have to deal with the fact that this team is still ranked.

A win over Southern Methodist will keep the Horned Frogs in the polls for another week.

No. 19 Michigan Wolverines

7 of 25

Denard Robinson continues his Heisman run as the Wolverines beat the Minnesota Golden Gophers. It'd be nice to actually see him throw the ball, though.

No. 18 Arkansas Razorbacks

8 of 25

Arkansas should be able to score more points this week than they did last week against No. 3 Alabama. But No. 14 Texas A&M has proven they can play defense and score points as well.

I'll go with the home team in the Aggies.

No. 17 Texas Longhorns

9 of 25

Expect Texas to jump out to a 4-0 start as they beat Iowa State this weekend. The Cyclones have struggled to win games against Northern Iowa, Iowa and Connecticut.

Texas should be fine.

No. 16 South Florida Bulls

10 of 25

South Florida hasn't proved they deserve to be ranked. Sure, they beat Notre Dame, but they needed five turnovers to do so.

A matchup against Pittsburgh will prove if they're worthy, and I don't believe they are.

Look for the home team and Tino Sunseri to pull off the upset on Thursday night.

No. 15 Baylor Bears

11 of 25

Is there anybody in the country playing better than Robert Griffin right now? I don't think so.

Kansas State should be satisfied with their victory over the Miami Hurricanes.

Baylor is a different team with a quarterback who is much better than Jacory Harris.

No. 14 Texas A&M Aggies

12 of 25

Texas A&M lost a heartbreaker last week, and a game against No. 18 Arkansas this week won't be any easier. I believe that the Aggies proved they can play with the big boys, and they have the offense and defense and to beat the Razorbacks.

I'm going with the home team.

No. 13 Clemson Tigers

13 of 25

Clemson has a ton of speed on both sides of the ball and builds confidence with every week.

I think they go into Blacksburg and pull out a W with one of the most explosive offenses in the country.

No. 12 Florida Gators

14 of 25

Florida has the speed and the offense to keep up with No. 3 Alabama, but can they score on that Alabama defense?

I give the Gators a solid chance of pulling off the upset with the game being in the swamp, but I have to go with the Crimson Tide just because of that defense.

No. 11 Virginia Tech Hokies

15 of 25

Virginia Tech hasn't played very well against teams they should have pounded into the ground.

They better step it up against No. 13 Clemson, or they will earn their first loss of the season.

Tajh Boyd and Andre Ellington are a deadly combination, and I'm not so sure the Hokies have enough offense to match them.

No. 10 South Carolina Gamecocks

16 of 25

South Carolina has struggled the last few weeks against lesser competition, and a matchup against Auburn doesn't look so good.

But the Tigers have been horrible at stopping the run, and the Gamecocks have a guy named Marcus Lattimore.

South Carolina wins.

No. 9 Oregon Ducks

17 of 25

Idle.

No. 8 Nebraska Cornhuskers

18 of 25

Nebraska is going up against No. 7 Wisconsin, one of the highest scoring teams in the country.

If Wisconsin can make this Cornhuskers team one dimensional and force Taylor Martinez to throw the ball, Nebraska is going down.

No. 7 Wisconsin Badgers

19 of 25

The first test for this Wisconsin team comes against No. 8 Nebraska.

The Badgers have one of the best offenses in the country, and I don't see Nebraska being able to match those points.

No. 6 Stanford Cardinal

20 of 25

Andrew Luck continues his Heisman season and thumps the UCLA Bruins, a team that plays no defense at all.

No. 5 Oklahoma State Cowboys

21 of 25

Idle.

No. 4 Boise State Broncos

22 of 25

The Boise State Broncos simply aren't losing a game this season.

But let's not look past Nevada this week—we all remember what happened last season.

No. 3 Alabama Crimson Tide

23 of 25

Alabama won one of the most impressive games last week against Arkansas and will have to do the same this week against No. 12 Florida.

Florida has the speed to match the Crimson Tide, but that Alabama defense is kind of good.

Have to give the nod to Nick Saban and company.

No. 2 Oklahoma Sooners

24 of 25

Although Oklahoma did struggle with Missouri, they still won.

Ball State traveling to the Sooners' house will not be a problem as they continue to roll.

No. 1 LSU Tigers

25 of 25

The LSU Tigers have beaten three Top-25 teams already and have one of the best defenses in the country.

You really think a team like Kentucky that averages 17 points a game is going to give the Tigers a problem?

I think not.
