Gopher Head Coach Jerry Kill Back in Hospital as Issues with Seizures Continue
After suffering another seizure early this morning, University of Minnesota Golden Gopher head coach Jerry Kill has been admitted to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn.
According to team physician Dr. Pat Smith, Kill's vital signs are normal at this time, but the increased frequency of the seizures since suffering one in the closing seconds of the game against New Mexico State has become a concern.
In a statement released by University of Minnesota Athletics Director Joel Maturi, he reaffirmed the school's support for Kill and his family as he continues to battle with his health:
"Coach Kill is determined to get this issue resolved. We all want what’s best for him, and his health is our first and foremost concern. I have full confidence that our football staff will get the team prepared while Jerry is away. We all want him back on the sidelines. But it’s time to find a resolution.
"
After a disappointing loss at home last night to North Dakota State, disappointment with the team's non-conference performances was visible on the faces of the entire staff. Kill was still optimistic that the upcoming Big-10 schedule would help the program identify where it's leadership will come from:
"You have to play disciplined football. We have to change the culture and it’s not going to happen overnight. We have to push through it. The challenge we have is sooner or later someone’s got to step up and be a leader. Right now the coaches are doing a lot of that.
"
The team has not officially announced who will be in charge of team operations during Kill's absence, but you'd have to think they'd look towards coordinators Tracy Claeys and Matt Limegrover, who both led the Gophers during his last hospitalization.
The Gophers travel to Ann Arbor, Michigan this week and will face off against the University of Michigan Wolverines on Saturday at 11:00 CST.
