College Football Rankings: 8 Ranked Teams We Have Zero Confidence in
Every season around this time we get a handful of teams that get our hopes up.
Yet every season, these same teams tend to let us down soon after we consider them contenders.
This season is no different, as there are currently a handful of teams playing at a high level. Yet, judging by past experiences, we know they will ultimately drop the ball in the end.
Here are eight teams that we have absolutely no confidence in at all.
No. 25 Arizona State
1 of 8Arizona State is a very good football team, fresh off a big victory against USC. While their 3-1 start to the 2011 season is something to notice, haven't we seen this story before?
Until they show that they belong in the conversation with Oregon and Stanford in the Pac-12, it's going to be tough to take this team too seriously.
That time may be coming sooner rather than later though.
No. 24 Illinois
2 of 8The 4-0 start for the Fighting Illini is a great story, but I'm not ready just yet to call them contenders for a Rose Bowl appearance.
They did have a nice win against Arizona State before barely sneaking by Western Michigan on Saturday.
We will find out a lot more about this team as they enter the Big Ten season.
No. 22 West Virginia
3 of 8West Virginia fans can go ahead and attempt to defend their beloved Mountaineers, but the facts are they beat three bad football teams and had only one real game on their schedule once again.
Getting run out of your own stadium is no way to inspire confidence.
Geno Smith is a talented quarterback and WVU is still a favorite to win the Big East, but that doesn't say much.
For teams that only schedule one tough out-of-conference game per season, you have to win that game or at least put on a good showing to have your name in the conversation at the end of the day.
The Mountaineers clearly didn't do that Saturday night.
No. 14 Texas A&M
4 of 8This one really doesn't need much explaining after the Aggies monumental collapse against Oklahoma State.
I like Mike Sherman's team and think they are very talented, but they showed on Saturday that they aren't ready.
No. 13 Clemson
5 of 8I love the effort from the Tigers and love the results so far, but if there is a poster boy for this topic it just might be Clemson.
No doubt this Tigers team is blessed with great talent, but how many times have they teased us in the past?
The ACC needs a team like Clemson to step up, but I will believe it when I see it at the end of the day.
Talk to me in November about the Tigers.
No. 11 Virginia Tech
6 of 8Frank Beamer's team is a model of consistency, but they haven't been able to separate themselves from the middle of the pack the past few season's.
This year it's likely the same story.
Their 4-0 start is nice and there is no doubt they are a great football team, but we're likely just waiting to be let down again.
No. 10 South Carolina
7 of 8Another poster boy for this topic is likely the Gamecocks.
I actually love this team and keep thinking they can be a factor in the end, but more than likely I'm just setting myself up to be disappointed.
Can South Carolina actually make the SEC Championship Game with Stephen Garcia at quarterback? Judging by past performances, the answer is no.
They are off to a great start in 2011, but Garcia could ultimately be their downfall.
No. 5 Oklahoma State
8 of 8The Cowboys are another team that it's hard to take too seriously.
There is no doubt they are explosive and are capable of beating any team in the country. They showed what they are made of in Saturday's comeback win over Texas A&M.
While they are on a great run at the moment, they shouldn't be in the conversation until they get by the Sooners, a matchup that could make the final week of the season very intriguing.
