Ranking the Top 10 Player Partnerships In This Generation's World Of Football

Raul HingoraniSep 25, 2011

In the world of football, there are loads of teams with loads of talent. Some teams are simply just dominant over the rest in their league, such as Barcelona.

While there are others that just fall behind others and fail to perform well. In each football team, there are some players that are truly an individual superpower, among the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo.

There are other players that take pride in playing as a team and share their happiness with their teammates.

In many teams, there are fantastical partnerships that can develop; the players can have great chemistry, or they just play well together.

I will now be counting down the 10 best partnerships in the elite football clubs of Europe, in this generation of football.

If you have any disagreements or have any other ideas, feel free to politely suggest some ideas.

10: Wayne Rooney and Javier Hernandez/Dimitar Berbatov

1 of 10

Last season was a good one for the Red Devils, Manchester United, as they won the Premiere League!

Not only that, but Wayne Rooney and Javier Hernandez developed a great partnership. Their partnership truly flourished in the later part of the season.

They were both scoring goals, assisting teammates, and assisting each other. With performances like that, the Premiere League was practically theirs for the taking.

Early on in the season, Dimitar Berbatov was paired up with Rooney upfront. Berbatov was able to score 20 goals to win the golden boot, along with Carlos Tevez.

But suddenly, his performance level just dipped. It was then that he was set to the bench to watch Chicharito, Javier Hernandez, play in his place.

At that point, Rooney and Hernandez were the preferred striker pair.

9: Didier Drogba and Nicolas Anelka

2 of 10

These two great forwards have been part of the Chelsea lineup for a while now. They have been quite effective, recently winning the Premiership in 2010.

Their partnership has thrived throughout their time at Stamford Bridge.

The two of them have scored a bunch of goals and have hurt teams greatly due to their plethora of attacking abilities.

Last season wasn't their best, I mean Chelsea finished in second, but sometime in the middle of the season, their performance level dropped.

Neither of the two forwards was able to lift the team. That period is one to be forgotten, while Didier and Nicolas should resume their great performances.

But, with Anelka getting old, his football career will probably end in a matter of years.

It might end this wonderful partnership, but these two strikers will have a great finish to their career playing alongside each other.

8: Cesc Fábregas and Robin Van Persie

3 of 10

Arsenal have had lots of ups and downs, but this partnership has reigned throughout.

Fábregas has played a position somewhat behind the Dutch forward, van Persie.

Cesc has been able to play up some magnificent balls to Robin, and they have been able to mesh really well.

Last season, Robin got injured sometime in early September or end of August. He was out until sometime in January.

But once he was back on his feet and fit to play, the two Gunners found their star studded performance level increase once more.

Just this summer, Fábregas' transfer saga was finally completed as he moved to his hometown club of FC Barcelona.

He will be missed dearly by Arsenal, but they must move on. Robin van Persie is now captain, and it is up to him to lead the Gunners.

7: Wesley Sneijder and Samuel Eto'o

4 of 10

These two attacking maestros have been the stars of Inter Milan. They have aided each other in scoring, and they have supplied various assists to their teammates.

Since Sneijder plays more of a central attacking midfield position, he has been the one who has been supplying more goals.

While Eto'o has been an attacking mastermind upfront scoring goals of all forms.

The two players play well for their international teams and they should remain a strong pair in Inter's offense.

Unfortunately, Samuel was involved in a move to Anzhi Makhachkala.

This will sadly end this wonderful partnership that benefited Inter. Wesley Sneijder remains at Inter, who just recently bought Diego Forlán from Atletico Madrid.

So, they found a replacement for the Cameroon international. Their partnership might have been broken, but it will be remembered.

6: Diego Forlán and Sergio Aguero

5 of 10

These two attacking wizards were the powerhouses of Atletico Madrid.

They were great goal-scorers, and they were able to provide great assists for each other.

They helped their teammates to score, and it was truly what this team could have wanted.

With teams like Barcelona and Real Madrid, the Spanish League title seemed a bit too far from their reach, but that doesn't mean that they aren't a good team.

These two great forwards had so much to offer for this Spanish side.

Just recently, both of these players departed to another club. Sergio Aguero left to the Eastlands to play for Manchester City.

He certainly left a burden for Atletico Madrid to handle, but he has already started off a great career with the Blues. On his debut, he scored two goals, and assisted one for David Silva. Meanwhile, Diego Forlán left to play for Inter Milan.

The Uruguay international has already scored some goals for the Italian side, and I'm sure there is more to come. This partnership will be dearly missed over at Atletico Madrid, but they must move on to find better replacements.

5: Kaka and Robinho

6 of 10

These two wonderful attackers might not play for the same club, but they certainly do play for their international team of Brazil.

Kaka has a plethora of tricks up his sleeve to offer, may it be a long shot or a magnificent pass.

Just ahead of him, Robinho plays a prominent attacking role where he scores quite a few goals.

The two of them have a great partnership that would be difficult to break.

In their clubs, Kaka used to play for AC Milan, where Robinho has been playing for a while. Unfortunately, they never played for Milan simultaneously.

But, Kaka departed to Madrid to play with many stars such as Cristiano Ronaldo and Spanish legend, Raúl.

Their partnership might have been broken clubwise, but it will always remain intact internationally.

4: Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres

7 of 10

Fernando Torres and Steven Gerrard have had a great partnership ever since Fernando came to Liverpool from Atletico Madrid.

In fact, it was Gerrard who assisted Torres' first goal as a Red.

From then on, these two have caused havoc around the league, may it be Steven or Fernando who causes it.

They have had many memorable moments together as a Liverpool player.

This is one partnership that if broken, would cause great sadness among not only the fans, but the players themselves.

Just in January, Fernando left Anfield to go to Stamford Bridge to play for Chelsea.

Some fans were graceful of Torres' move, while others were burning his jersey. Steven Gerrard was supportive of his teammate and I'm sure Fernando wished him well.

Just after that, the two teams ended up facing off in a Premiere League match. Liverpool took this one 1-0. This pair is one that won't be forgotten.

3: Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic

8 of 10

Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic are two defensive walls that have been rarely penetrated with ease.

These two players have developed a great partnership in the center of defense.

It was because of these two rock solid defenders that Manchester United were defeated just a few times.

On the left, they also have Patrice Evra to rely on because he's fast, solid on the defense, and good on the flanks.

He is a good left back to have alongside two great defenders. This partnership certainly does reign in the Premiership.

Rio Ferdinand is getting older day by day, and as he ages, this wonderful partnership is slowly coming to a close.

The conclusion of this defensive pair would be saddening for the fans, but as people say, all good things come to an end.

I doubt that Nemanja Vidic would depart Old Trafford, so until Rio retires, this partnership will remain intact.

2: Carles Puyol and Gerard Pique

9 of 10

Gerard Pique and Carles Puyol are arguably the best center back pair in the world of football.

They not only play well together, but they have great chemistry and look out for each other.

These two brick wall defenders have aided FC Barcelona in getting to the point at where they are right now.

Not only has their partnership flourished throughout their Barcelona careers, but Spain, their international team, won the world cup.

So that certainly does add to being a great center back partnership.

Carles Puyol has been playing football for a while now.

He might be playing like a 23 year old even though he is in his late twenties, but he can't go on for much longer.

Gerard Pique still has years to come as a football player, but if his compatriot center back retires, the team would certainly be affected.

I doubt that they will be affected negatively, but it will definitely be a loss. I am positive that this defensive partnership will live on for a while.

1: Xavi Hernandez and Andres Iniesta

10 of 10

Finally, I present you with Xavi Hernandez and Andres Iniesta.

These two midfield orchestrators have created a wonderful partnership that amazes players and fans not only in their club, but internationally.

Xavi is arguably the best passer in the world, while Andres is arguably the best dribbler in the world.

A partnership doesn't get better than that. Xavi symphonizes half chances into goals for himself or for his teammates.

Iniesta also creates magnificent plays out of nothing, and can dribble players like a piece of cake. If these two footballers are hot, they are unstoppable.

Both of these players still have years to come internationally, and for their club.

Both of them are loyal to their club and I doubt that they would ever think of leaving, not only because of their loyalty, but because they bought compatriot midfielder Cesc Fábregas.

That just adds more reason for them to stay. The two maestros will also remain dominant midfield forces for Spain's international team.

This partnership is one that has, is, and will be unbreakable.
