College Football Rankings: BCS Title Matchup May Be Determined by LSU-Alabama
If you are looking for some must see television, you need to look no further than November 5.
Get the DVR's set ahead of time—you aren't going to want to miss this one.
That's the day the two SEC heavyweights Alabama and LSU square off in a matchup that will undoubtedly have huge implications on the BCS Championship Game.
For the winner, there is a spot waiting for them in New Orleans, Louisiana, on January 9.
If both the Crimson Tide and the Tigers make it to their anticipated November showdown unbeaten, the victor almost certainly will make it to the title game. Even if they should stumble once after, a case for a one-loss LSU or Alabama should be made.
Especially if it's LSU, whose schedule alone speaks for itself.
The Tigers climbed to No. 1 in the AP Poll, while the Tide are sitting at No. 3. In the USA Today Coaches Poll, LSU closed the gap on Alabama and are in a virtual tie for No. 2.
So while November 5 becomes a huge day for both programs, there is a chance it may not be the only time they meet.
Therefore, all eyes turn to the Sooners.
If Oklahoma wins out, they will be awaiting one of the SEC schools, but if they don't, things will get very interesting.
You can't make the same case for a one-loss Sooners team the way you could for either Alabama or LSU with one-loss. Especially with no Big 12 Championship Game this season.
If LSU loses on November 5 and finishes the season with one loss, their out-of-conference wins alone should vault them ahead of every other one-loss team in the country.
There is a lot that would need to happen, but it's not that crazy to think that we could see Alabama-LSU more than once this season.
That's a long way away though and plenty can happen between now and then.
For now, all eyes should be glued to their November 5 game. A spot in the BCS Championship Game is likely at stake.
