2012 NFL Mock Draft: What Player Stock Rose the Most in College Football Week 4

Matt ShetlerSep 25, 2011

Here's a weekly look at some of the stars from Saturday that we could soon see on Sunday.

Now that the NFL Draft has practically become a year round event, we can continuously track who's stock is up and who's is down for next season's draft.

Let's take a quick look at five players that helped themselves with solid Week 4 performances.

Trent Richardson, Alabama

1 of 5

Richardson is in a fight to be possibly the top back off the board in next April's draft and his recent performances will keep him involved in that discussion.

He had a big game Saturday against Arkansas, combining for over 200 yards (123 rushing) and a touchdown.

For Richardson, it was his third consecutive 100 yards day on the ground and has already found the end zone 10 times in the season's first four weeks.

Vontaze Burfict, Arizona State

2 of 5

Burfict could be the first linebacker off the board in April and play in 2011 has his stock rising.

He's a  dominant force in the middle with great instincts and will tackle sideline to sideline. He already has four sacks on the season and showed off his coverage skills last night when he intercepted USC's Matt Barkley

Justin Blackmon, Oklahoma State

3 of 5

There are many talented wide receivers in the game right now including Notre Dame's Michael Floyd, USC's Robert Woods and South Carolina's Alshon Jeffery.

Yet Oklahoma State's Justin Blackmon is better right now than anyone else.

Blackmon had another double digit catch performance in the Cowboys comeback win over Texas A&M. He's on pace for back to back 100 catch seasons, which doesn't happen very often in the college game.

The system he plays in certainly helps, but you can't ignore the production.

While Jeffery is still probably the best NFL prospect, Blackmon is closing the gap.

Brandon Thompson, Clemson

4 of 5

Thompson is a guy whose stats won't jump off the page at anyone. He might not get the sacks but will pile up tackles for loss as he effectively balances plugging running lanes and penetrating.

He did that effectively in Clemson's win against Florida State on Saturday.

Thompson is capable of wrecking havoc on opposing offenses and must be accounted for.

He's probably one of the top five defensive tackles right now, but is moving closer to the top one or two.

Robert Griffin, Baylor

5 of 5

A year ago, a guy named Cam Newton came along and performed so well that he became the No. 1 pick in the NFL draft by the Carolina Panthers. After two weeks of the NFL season, you see already what kind of impact the rookie has had in the NFL.

Next April, there will be another strong quarterback that features Stanford's Andrew Luck, Oklahoma's Landry Jones and USC's Matt Barkley. They are likely to be the top three signal callers off the board, but don't sleep on Baylor's Robert Griffin.

Griffin has built off his amazing performance in a Week 1 upset over TCU and continues to dazzle.

Saturday he put up monster numbers once again, throwing for 329 yards, rushing for another 63 and combining for six touchdowns.

On the season, Griffin has thrown for 944 yards, rushed for 170 yards and combined for 14 touchdowns in only three games.

Griffin may not be at the top of the draft board just yet, but he is improving his stock week to week.
