College Football Rankings 2011: 3 Season Ruining Losses

Andrew KulhaSep 25, 2011

The tragedy of college football is that one loss can completely ruin your season.

It doesn’t mean you can’t continue to play, and it certainly doesn’t mean that you can’t still be successful and even go to a good bowl game.

There is something about losing the dream of the BCS title hunt that can be so deflating though.

As a ranked program it’s pretty much one loss and you’re done as far as the championship is concerned, especially in a year that features so many great teams.

Here are three teams whose seasons got ruined this weekend:

Florida State:

The season is essentially over for Florida State as far as thinking big-picture is concerned. The loss last week to Oklahoma was a big blow, but they were still in easy contention for the ACC and had hope for the BCS. Now after losing to Clemson 35-30 they are staring at some very long odds.

Texas A&M:

The season is not over for the Aggies by any stretch of the imagination. That being said, losing 30-29 to Oklahoma State really kills any shot they had at a Big 12 title and competing with Oklahoma. They are a great team and will continue to do well, but this loss is a huge blow.

Arkansas:

The thought coming into the Razorbacks matchup with Alabama was that they potentially had a good enough team to snag an upset and start talking about possible SEC titles. Not only did they lose to the Tide, but they looked bad doing it going on to a 38-14 route.
