College Football Rankings 2011: 3 Teams That Will Jump Up Rankings
A huge win against a tough opponent goes a long ways in the college football rankings.
Not only do the rankings of the team come into play, but so does the nature of the win and everything else surrounding it.
One good win can take you from an unranked school to a Top 25 program. A big win over a higher ranked opponent can drastically improve your rankings. Finally, getting a big win over a tough opponent ranked lower than you will also make you look better.
It’s all about the Top 25 in the BCS system, and any game that features one or more ranked teams will undoubtedly get a lot of attention.
Here are three teams that should jump up the rankings:
Clemson:
No. 21 Clemson got a huge win against the No.11 ranked Florida State Seminoles. Quarterback Tajh Boyd threw three touchdowns and ran for another in an impressive 35-30 win. The Tigers are now 4-0 and have set themselves up to take a huge leap up the standings with this win. On the other-hand the Seminoles have lost two in a row and are a shell of their former selves with quarterback E.J. Manuel out with injury.
Oklahoma State:
No. 7 Oklahoma State beat out No. 8 Texas A&M in what was arguably one of the better games of the weekend. Quarterback Brandon Weeden was stunning as he threw for a school record 438 yards which included two touchdowns. The Cowboys featured their opportunistic defense by forcing four turnovers from a very good Aggies offense. I expect the Cowboys will at least move up one spot due to the prime time nature of the game and the strength of the opponent.
Alabama:
Many thought that the No. 14 Arkansas Razorbacks had a good shot at upending and upsetting the No. 3 Alabama Crimson Tide. Unfortunately for all who thought that, they could not have been more wrong. Alabama trounced the Razorbacks 38 to 14. Trent Richardson rushed for 120 yards on 17 carries and added a 61-yard touchdown reception on a beautiful screen pass. If I had it my way the Tide would move up a based on the difficulty of the opponent and the impressiveness of the win.
