AP Top 25 Poll Week 5: Alabama Crimson Tide Should Be the No. 1 Team
The Alabama Crimson Tide put on a performance Saturday that proved without a doubt that they are the best team in college football through four weeks of the season.
Frankly, it doesn't matter how well LSU or Oklahoma performs in their two games coming up, as the boys from Tuscaloosa are clearly the ones to beat.
Las Vegas oddsmakers made the move last week after being left unimpressed with the Oklahoma Sooners registering a 23-13 road win over the Florida State Seminoles as 3.5-point road favorites.
The Associated Press Top 25 poll needs to catch up with the times—just because a team is sent out as the No. 1 team in the preseason, doesn't mean it's theirs until tasting defeat.
Polls aren't important this time of year, but if you're going to have one, at least have the nation's best team at this point in time on top.
Alabama's only question mark is quarterback play, which has been answered over the last three weeks with the play of AJ McCarron.
No back field in the country provides the type of one-two punch that the Crimson Tide possess, as Trent Richardson is only going to get stronger as opposing defenses get worn down over the course of the season, while Eddie Lacy isn't too shabby.
In terms of defense, Alabama and LSU stand alone as the top two stop units in the country, but I'll take Nick Saban over Les Miles at Bryant-Denny Stadium any day of the week.
The pollsters need to get with the times, as virtually everyone in Las Vegas agrees, the Alabama Crimson Tide deserve to be No. 1 in every poll that's available.
