5 Reasons Why Michigan's Denard Robinson Should Top the Heisman Conversation
He won't beat you with his arm, he will never be confused for a passer who can dissect a defense, and you'll never see him go 20-for-25 with 300 yards passing on a Saturday.
Denard Robinson is one of the best athletes in college football today. His speed is unmatched, his elusiveness makes him one of the hardest people to tackle, and his big play ability makes him a threat to score any time he touches the ball.
It's only September and there is a lot of football to play, but Denard is one of the favorites to win this year's Heisman Trophy.
He's the Best Player on the Field on Saturdays
1 of 5The Heisman Trophy is for the best player in college football for that year. This year there isn't a better player, overall, than Denard. He won't throw and kill your pass defense, but if you just guard his ability to run, he will find his Michigan receivers downfield.
You have to plan for everything that Denard can do, as he can do everything.
If He Is Hurt Michigan Isn't the Same Explosive Team
2 of 5Take one of the other explosive players in college football off of their team and ask yourself, "Are they still a great team?"
If you take LaMichael James off of Oregon, they're still able to score 50 points per game.
If you take Landry Jones off of Oklahoma, they're still able to win games.
If you take Marcus Lattimore off of South Carolina, they're still one of the best teams in the SEC.
But, if you take Denard off of Michigan, this team is significantly worse.
He Is the Whole Michigan Offense
3 of 5On the season, Denard Robinson has accounted for 11 of Michigan's touchdowns. That's 66 points out of 110 total points scored from the Michigan Wolverines this year.
Not to mention, he leads the team in passing and rushing on the season.
If Denard could kick, he probably would do the field goals and extra points as well.
He Leads the Big Ten in Rushing as a Quarterback
4 of 5Before the game today against San Diego State, Denard was already in the top two in rushing in the Big Ten. Coincidentally, the person who he was next to, and still is, is Nebraska's quarterback Taylor Martinez.
After today's outburst, 21 attempts, 200 yards and two touchdowns, he put some distance between himself and Martinez.
And a lot of distance between himself and any of the true running backs in the Big Ten.
He's the Best Player in the Big Ten and in the NCAA Right Now
5 of 5There are other great college football players out there right now, but none of these players are explosive and are as much of a multi-threat as Denard.
He'll rush for 200 yards and throw for another 200. He'll score with his legs or through the air. He'll even catch a pass and run that in for a score as well.
There's no way you can plan for a Denard Robinson-led offense at Michigan. You just have to hope that your offense can keep up with his.
If you can't, then you'll end up like the others who are left behind.
