College Football: Was Will Muschamp or Brady Hoke the Best Coaching Hire
There were a lot of new college football coaches hired during the offseason. Some have led their teams to a better start than the previous year, while others, well, have not.
Two coaches that have done a brilliant job at their first year's as head coach of their new team are Florida's Will Muschamp, and Michigan's Brady Hoke. Both coaches have their teams off to undefeated starts, both have a fan base that believes in them, and both have their teams playing championship football.
What other coaches have their teams off to great starts this year?
Give a click through these five coaches on this list.
5. Todd Graham, Pittsburgh Panthers
1 of 5Todd Graham came into this season with a motto of playing football dubbed "High Octane." He has the Panthers playing at that level on offense and defense this year.
So far the Panthers are 2-1 on the year, and have one of the best running backs in the Big East in Ray Graham.
If they can beat Notre Dame today, they'll be 3-1 and on the right path to a successful first year in Pittsburgh.
4. Al Golden, Miami Hurricanes
2 of 5Al Golden came to Miami this year under the knowledge that he had a good team that needed work, but could have a shot at winning the ACC. But what he found out after the Nevin Shaprio NCAA scandal could have ruined his first year at The U.
Instead, Golden has his team at 1-1 (could have been 2-0 if he wasn't missing half his team in Week 1).
Last week in his first home game at Miami, he introduced a new tradition in the Cane Walk and won in a blowout against then Top 20 ranked Ohio State, whom nearly a decade later, they finally got a piece of revenge on for the loss in the 2003 National Championship Game.
3. Pete Lembo, Ball State Cardinals
3 of 5Hey, we have to give some love to the MAC schools, right?
Pete Lambo took over a team that was 4-8 last year and has a roster full of recruits that were ranked no higher than a three-star.
This year, Coach Lambo has a win against a Big Ten team in Indiana. They were trounced in South Florida against the South Florida Bulls, but rebounded against Buffalo last week.
At 2-1 on the season, he has the fan base in Muncie, Indiana believing in their Cardinals.
2. David Shaw, Stanford Cardinals
4 of 5This coach probably had the easiest transition into his new position as the team's head coach. He was there under the last head coach. He was well known and well liked by the current players. Oh, and he has the best player in college football in Andrew Luck.
So yeah, David Shaw has had an easy season so far this year.
1. Dana Holgorsen, West Virginia Mountaineers
5 of 5Tonight Coach Holgorsen has his biggest game in his young coaching career at West Virginia as his Mountaineers go up against the No. 3-ranked LSU Tigers. If he's able to pull off the upset, then he's the best new coaching hire this year.
If he isn't, well, he still has the best team in the Big East and a good chance at winning the conference this year.
He has his team at 3-0 on the year and should finish the year with nine to 10 wins, which would be a great accomplishment for any first year head coach at a BCS School.
