World Football: 10 Hugely Embarrassing Own Goals (Video)
It is a common occurrence to see own goals in world football. Certainly we have seen a few stunners in recent games. Clearly there are two types the great finishes in an attempt to clear the ball and when it just hits a player and goes in.
With that in mind I have put together a video slideshow showcasing some of my personal favourite embarrassing own goals.
Sam Ricketts (Bolton)
1 of 10Here is Bolton defender Sam Ricketts heading past his own goalkeeper. It is unclear exactly what he was trying to do, but the best guess is he was unaware his goalkeeper had rushed out of the goal and was trying to head the ball back to him.
The lesson here is to check your goalkeepers' position before heading the ball.
