8 College Football Teams Within the Top 25 on Upset Alert in Week 4
This weekend should be an exciting one in the world of college football.
The top three teams in the country are on upset alert, along with five other members of the Top 25.
We get to see four games with two ranked teams and plenty more matchups that appear pretty even on paper.
There will definitely be some changes in the rankings after this weekend, so let’s take a look at eight Top 25 teams that find themselves on upset alert in Week 4.
No. 1 Oklahoma (vs. Missouri)
1 of 9We’ve been down this road as recently as last season.
Landry Jones and the Sooners came into Columbia and got beaten by the Tigers by a score of 36-27.
This year though, the pressure will be higher. Oklahoma has a 37-home-game winning streak they’d like to protect and the Tigers aren’t as good as they were in 2010.
If Oklahoma doesn’t make too many mistakes, they should win easily, but Mizzou has the talent to overtake the Sooners if they make too many mistakes.
No. 2 LSU (at No. 16 West Virginia)
2 of 9Geno Smith has been on fire this season.
In three games, he’s thrown for more than 1,000 yards and seven touchdowns.
Last week, the Mountaineers scored a very convincing win over the Maryland Terrapins, so they’ll look to keep that momentum going this weekend.
Granted, LSU is much better than Maryland, but the Mountaineers have the talent to pull off the upset.
No. 3 Alabama (vs. No. 14 Arkansas)
3 of 9The Tide get to play the Razorbacks at home this season, which will be a big plus for them.
But, as we all know, anything can happen in an SEC game, especially one with two first-year starting quarterbacks.
Alabama should have no trouble relying upon Trent Richardson to carry them to victory, but if A.J. McCarron gets flustered early, it could be a long day for the Tide.
No. 7 Oklahoma State (at No. 8 Texas A&M)
4 of 9I know, I know. This isn’t much of an upset, but, technically, since the Aggies are ranked lower, we have to put the Cowboys on upset alert.
Going into the hostile environment of Kyle Field is never easy.
But, the Cowboys can silence the crowd early with a couple big passes from Brandon Weeden to Justin Blackmon.
If they get off to a rocky start though, the crowd will be all over them early and often.
No. 11 Florida State (at No. 21 Clemson)
5 of 9The Seminoles are coming off of a tough loss to the Oklahoma Sooners, but they can’t let that get them down.
They need to be sharp this week when they head to South Carolina to take on the Clemson Tigers.
Clemson is coming off of a big win against Auburn and will be riding that momentum into the Florida State game.
If the Seminoles fall behind early, their entire season could be in jeopardy.
No. 22 Michigan (vs. San Diego State)
6 of 9San Diego State returns a team that nearly knocked off Missouri in non-conference play in 2010.
These guys can flat-out run the football, feeding off of sophomore Ronnie Hillman, who already has 497 yards and eight rushing touchdowns this season.
If Michigan’s porous defense can’t keep him contained, the Aztecs could pull off a big upset in the Big House.
No. 23 USC (at Arizona State)
7 of 9The Sun Devils have already beaten Missouri this year, so they are perfectly capable of pulling off this upset.
USC could barely beat Minnesota in Week 1, so Arizona State could pull off this upset.
The Sun Devils may not have the best quarterback in this game, but Brock Osweiler can go toe-to-toe with Matt Barkley on any given Saturday.
This game should be close and fun to watch.
No. 25 Georgia Tech (vs. North Carolina)
8 of 9Both of these teams enter this game at 3-0 on the season.
Georgia Tech is the top rushing team in the country, averaging more than 425 yards per game on the ground.
But, don’t rule out the Tar Heels. UNC has a very balanced offense and strong defense.
If they can keep the Yellow Jackets under 300 rushing yards and force them to throw, they should pull off the upset in Atlanta.
5 Teams That Will Cruise to Victory
9 of 9No. 4 Boise State (vs. Tulsa)
No. 6 Wisconsin (vs. South Dakota)
No. 9 Nebraska (at Wyoming)
No. 13 Virginia Tech (at Marshall)
No. 17 Baylor (vs. Rice)
