Wayne Rooney or Sergio Aguero: Who Is Likely to Get the Golden Boot?

The Premier League has begun and we've seen a flurry of goals from two clubs from Manchester. Both of these teams possess some of the best strikers in the world today. The two strikers that have impressed thus far in the Premier League have been Wayne Rooney and Sergio Aguero.

These two are big favorites for the Golden Boot at the end of the season, and both have bagged an excellent number of goals and are the top two goalscorers so far in the league.

In this article, I'll try to compare these two super players and predict which one will end up as top scorer by the end of the season.

Wayne Rooney

One of the best players in world football, Wayne Rooney has excelled and proven himself as a world class player in the past few seasons. He began to finally display and prove his enormous potential, after the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo in the 2009/2010 season, where he bagged an excellent 34 goals in 44 appearances in all competitions.

Wayne Rooney was, at times, single-handedly winning matches for the Red Devils and was unstoppable that season, until his injury late into the season which affected the team's title challenge.

Wayne Rooney is known for his passion, constant movement, excellent ability to pick a pass, technique, superb shooting ability, pace and power. He's simply a world-class forward and marksman and is a lethal finisher.

He has begun the season in stunning fashion, with nine goals in his first five matches and when he's in this form, he's almost impossible to stop. He's the definite favorite for the Golden Boot. 

Strengths: Passion, pace, unselfish, uncanny ability in picking out a pass, constant and superb movement which makes him such a handful to defences, and a lethal finisher, who's dangerous inside and outside the penalty area.

Weaknesses: Can be too passionate at times and can lose his head. 

Prediction: Golden Boot winner

Sergio Aguero

A superb talent and striker, Sergio Aguero has been linked with the best clubs Europe can offer for a number of years and is showing why, with his superb performances at the beginning of the campaign for Manchester City.

Sergio Aguero is one of the best forwards and players in world football and has definitely been one of the best buys of the season. Aguero impressed at Atletico Madrid and was by far their only bright player in what was a massively disappointing campaign for the Rojiblancos, scoring 27 goals in 43 appearances.

Aguero has continued his impressive performances with a stunning campaign so far with Manchester City, scoring eight goals in his first five appearances for the club. 

Sergio Aguero is a player known for his excellent dribbling, technique, direct runs, powerful bursts into the box, ball control and strength. He's quite similar to Wayne Rooney, but he can be selfish at times which is one of his few weaknesses.

He is a definite favorite for the Golden Boot as well, but I believe he'll just lose out to Wayne Rooney.

Strengths: Ball control, dribbling, powerful and direct runs, movement, technique, strength and finishing.

Weaknesses: Can be selfish and can lose focus at times.

Prediction: Second to Wayne Rooney

Comparing the Two

If you actually compare the two, the two players have very similar styles of play. Both have excellent technique, ball control, movement, strength and power and are lethal finishers. Both players also have the ability to change the match and to make a chance out of nothing.

It's no surprise that these two players are the top two goalscorers in the league, they are the two best forwards in the country and can be labelled as "world class."

Why do I think Wayne Rooney will end up as top scorer?

Simply because he has more Premier League experience and has proven that he's capable of performing under the pressure, but I think that this goalscorer race will go down to the wire.

Conclusion

That's my opinion on this topic, Wayne Rooney for the Golden Boot and Sergio Aguero a close second. But of course, there are many other contenders like Javier Hernandez, Edin Dzeko and Luis Suarez.

This promises to be a thrilling and interesting race, which will go down to the wire.
