Georgia Football: The 5 Best Offensive Players so Far This Season

Brian JonesSep 20, 2011

The first quarter of the 2011 season has come and gone for the Georgia Bulldogs, and to say 1-2 is not the way they wanted to start the season would be understatement.

The Bulldogs had their share of downs, but there was a lot of positives to take from the first three games, especially from the offensive side of the ball.

Aaron Murray looks to have a big year, Isaiah Crowell shows signs of being a special player and some of the young players that probably weren’t expected to play as much as they have are playing at a high level.

Here’s a look at the five best offensive players after the first quarter of the season.

Aaron Murray

1 of 5

After a good freshman year, Murray is off to a solid start to the 2011 season. Through three games, Murray has completed 63 percent of his passes while throwing for 672 yards and nine touchdowns.

If the Bulldogs are going to have a good second, third and fourth quarter to the 2011 season, it will be because of Murray getting better and better as the season rolls on.

Isaiah Crowell

2 of 5

There was a lot of hype when Crowell came to Athens because he was expected to be the next big running back for the Bulldogs. While his numbers aren’t eye-popping, Crowell has been solid his first three games.

He leads the team in rushing with 264 yards, and his yards per carry average is 5.6. With Richard Samuel battling through injuries, it looks like Crowell will be the No. 1 back from now on.

Orson Charles

3 of 5

Orson Charles is not getting the ball as much fans would like, but the tight end still makes plays when the ball is in his hands.

Charles only has eight receptions through the first three games, but has averaged 18 yards per catch, which leads the team.

Something tells me the coaching staff will make more an effort to get him the ball the next three games, especially with the Bulldogs facing more SEC opponents.

Ben Jones

4 of 5

The offensive line has more bad plays than good this season, but Ben Jones is not a lineman that makes mistakes. Jones has done a good job maintaining his blocks and doesn’t get called for holding.

The O-line has had its share of injuries in the past, and if for some reason Jones goes down with an injury, the Bulldogs would be in a world of hurt.

Malcolm Mitchell

5 of 5

Out of all the members of the Dream Team, Malcolm Mitchell might be playing the best football. Mitchell leads the team in receptions (14) and yards (159). He also has two receiving touchdowns which puts him only behind Tavarres King.

Mitchell has shown great hands and better speed. He got the start against Coastal Carolina, and if he continues to develop, he could be mentioned with great receivers such as Terrence Edwards and A.J. Green when his career in Athens is complete.
