College Football Predictions 2011: Toughest Week 4 Games to Pick
The whole "road test" weekend buildup turned out to be a ton of inflated hype; the top teams soared to victory all weekend long.
Florida State was the only major casualty of the major players in the national title hunt, but that was expected given that the ‘Noles were going up against the Oklahoma Sooners, the No. 1 team in America.
This week, we have some more potential for plenty of upsets, but just how many will actually come to fruition?
Will Clemson stun Florida State?
Will West Virginia take out LSU?
Will anyone survive the Oklahoma State-Texas A&M shootout?
All we know right now is that it’s certainly an interesting weekend to be a gambling man.
If you’re getting ready to reel in some winners in Week 4, here are some shaky picks to avoid.
LSU (-5) at West Virginia
1 of 6"College GameDay" is heading to Morgantown for the first time ever in anticipation of what should be one of the best games of the 2011 season.
LSU-West Virginia: The Rematch.
The Tigers asserted their dominance in Baton Rouge last year, but this year new West Virginia head man Dana Holgorsen will have something to say about that.
LSU’s defense is one of the scariest crews in the country, but will they be able to slow down QB Geno Smith and the Mountaineer passing attack?
Notre Dame (-6.5) at Pittsburgh
2 of 6Can we trust Notre Dame yet?
The Irish finally got it done at home against Michigan State last weekend, but do they have an encore performance saved up for a road trip to Pittsburgh?
The Panthers deflated in the fourth quarter in their loss to Iowa last week, but they also showed that they’ve got the type of balance on offense and defense to give any team fits.
Brian Kelly still has to prove that he can start doing the whole back-to-back big wins thing before I can start buying into his team’s potential again.
Texas A&M (-4) vs. Oklahoma State
3 of 6I’ll say it now, the Oklahoma Sooners are the second-best team in the state of Oklahoma.
The Cowboys might just have the two most important offensive weapons in college football with the dynamic passing duo of QB Brandon Weeden and WR Justin Blackmon.
And to make matters worse, they added RB Joseph Randle just for effect.
With playmakers like RB Cyrus Gray and WR Jeff Fuller, Texas A&M has the offense to keep pace, but I can’t see the Aggies slowing down that talented trio and surviving this one, even if it is in College Station.
Florida State (-1.5) at Clemson
4 of 6Is it already time to sell Florida State’s stock?
E.J. Manuel is banged up and the Seminoles failed to get the job done in their most important game of the season.
Thankfully, the team can ease back into the rest of their schedule with a nice, easy game against...
Oh wait, scratch that.
After such a tough loss, this is certainly not the time you want to be taking a road trip for a crucial division game—and it doesn’t help that the opponent has one of the most explosive players in the country, RB Andre Ellington, at its disposal.
This isn’t the "Bowden Bowl" anymore, it’s the "Bo Bowl." And this could be the year that Dabo gets the best of Jimbo.
Then we'll do some limbo with a bimbo.
And we'll make gumbo, eat it at the gazebo and end the night with a placebo.
Ohio State (-15) vs. Colorado
5 of 6Joe Bauserman or Braxton Miller?
Hmm.
Hey, Ohio State fans, are you still glad Terrelle Pryor left?
I’ll take Colorado’s Tyler Hansen over both those options, thank you.
More importantly, I’ll take RB Rodney Stewart over anyone on the field.
Also Be Careful Of...
6 of 6BYU (-2.5) vs. Central Florida
Toledo (+2.5) at Syracuse
Temple (+9.5) at Maryland
Rutgers (-4) vs. Ohio
Miami (-13.5) vs. Kansas State
UCLA (+3.5) at Oregon State
Virginia Tech (-20) at Marshall
Missouri (+21.5) at Oklahoma
Oregon (-14.5) at Arizona
USC (+2.5) at Arizona State
