Manchester United: Red Devils Leave Little Doubt They Are Class of EPL

Gabe ZaldivarJun 7, 2018

With a flurry of shots and a dose of luck, Manchester United bested Chelsea in what was one of the more entertaining fixtures in this still early season. One thing was certain by the end of the match: Manchester United has no equal.

There is plenty of time for clubs to play catch up. The season is a long an arduous journey, one that will see United falter at some point; every club does.

But for the time being, Sir Alex Ferguson's boys are in a class all to themselves. On Sunday, we were treated to a clash among titans. Chelsea came into Old Trafford with familiar faces mixed with an infusion of new blood.

The Blues showed that they were up to the task, taking 22 shots with eight on goal. They certainly had their chances, but fortune is resting with United for the start of this season.

Questions continue to rise as Fernando Torres was denied far too often. He notched only his second goal in a Blues kit, and really should have had another amongst the myriad of chances.

The real treasure was a United side that played with ease and confidence throughout. While Chelsea pressured the box at every turn, United remained poised.

Watching the game, you had to figure that the points were in hand as the ball always seemed to break the Devils' way.

If Ferguson's side is going to get fortuitous breaks, they will be unbeatable for some time. This is a team that is hotter than any I have seen.

The goals continue to come, and the defense remains strong, despite injury concerns for Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic.

Those lingering issues illustrate how deep Manchester is at this point in the season. As ridiculous as it is to think, they can still get stronger on the back line.

There is one thing that can be taken as fact after Sunday's victory: Manchester United are playing with unbelievable flair and determination.

They may hold first by two points, but the discrepancy is far greater. United truly have no equal.
