Pac-12 Expansion: Conference Power Rankings with Inclusion of Oklahoma and Texas
The Pac-12 was already a solid conference with great programs. But if the reports are true, it's only going to get better. Pac-12 officials are currently in active talks on how to make the conference work with the additions of Texas and Oklahoma.
These are two powerhouse schools that are in the Top 25 almost every week of every season. The Pac-12 is only going to expand and get that much better. This conference looks to be one of the deepest in all of college football.
Here are the power rankings of each team in the Pac-12 conference with the addition of Oklahoma and Texas.
14. Oregon State Beavers
1 of 14Oregon State has struggled every season and only have two seasons in the programs history with double-digit wins. This season, they are 0-2 with a loss to the Sacramento State Hornets and a 35-0 loss to Wisconsin.
They are stuck playing two quarterbacks, have a ton of injuries and may be in the need of a coaching change. Their recruiting class is also not good enough to compete with the top teams in this conference.
It's going to take a while before the Beavers become competitive.
13. UCLA Bruins
2 of 14UCLA has only had one double-digit winning season since 1999 and have lost four of their last six bowl games.
The Bruins are currently 1-2 with losses to Houston and Texas and a close victory coming against San Jose State. The good news is that Rick Neuheisel is a solid recruiter, and this team could develop into something over the years.
But as of right now, they will finish in the bottom of the Pac-12.
12. Washington State Cougars
3 of 14When you only win five games in the last three years combined, you're Charles Barkley terrible.
The Cougars should feel a little optimistic considering they have won two games already this season, which is the same amount they won in the entire 2008 and 2010 seasons. Maybe Paul Wulff has turned the corner with this team?
Time will tell.
11. Colorado Buffaloes
4 of 14It's pretty bad when you only have 17 rushing yards in a game. But when it's against the defense of Hawaii, there are some serious problems.
The Buffaloes last bowl win came in 2004, and they haven't won more than seven games since 2005. Colorado has some pieces set in place due to recruiting, especially on the defensive side of the ball, but right now this is a bad football team.
10. Arizona Wildcats
5 of 14The Wildcats are disappointing, as they have all that talent on the offensive side of the ball and couldn't be less competitive.
Quarterback Nick Foles and wide receiver Juron Criner are both seniors, so, after this season they will have to replace them. With a sub-par recruiting class coming in, the future doesn't look to good for this team.
The potential is there, but that can only take you so far.
9. Washington Huskies
6 of 14Head coach Steve Sarkisian is doing a good job with this program. They won their first bowl game last year since 2000. Well, anything is better than the job Tyrone Willingham did in 2008.
The Huskies are off to a nice start this season and were competitive in a loss to Nebraska. Washington should be able to have a double-digit winning season soon for the first time since 2000.
8. Utah Utes
7 of 14Head coach Kyle Whittingham has won 73 percent of his games with Utah, and although the switch to the Pac-12 may be more difficult, the Utes don't expect that record to change much.
Utah was competitive against USC in a nine-point loss and scored 54 points on a solid BYU defense.
They also have a decent 2012 recruiting class.
7. California Golden Bears
8 of 14Cal is off to a great start this season and could make some noise along with Stanford and Oregon. The Golden Bears are a team on the rise, as they've won five bowl games in the last eight seasons.
They just need to work on their consistency and this team should be fine.
6. Arizona State Sun Devils
9 of 14Head coach Dennis Erickson is doing a good job at turning this program around, but they still need to take the next step and win their first bowl game since 2005.
It will come and the Sun Devils are a team to look out for in the future.
5. Stanford Cardinal
10 of 14Sure, Andrew Luck is leaving after this season, but this team still has good recruiting classes, including two ESPN Top 150 players for the 2012 class.
Of course, they'll have to take a backseat to some of the other teams, but this Stanford program is no pushover.
4. USC Trojans
11 of 14The USC Trojans are currently serving punishment for NCAA rules violations, but once Texas and Oklahoma make it official, you can bet your bottom dollar that USC will be in the running for that Pac-12 title.
USC is always a top school and nothing is going to change about that.
3. Texas Longhorns
12 of 14The Longhorns had a horrible season last year, but after nine straight double-digit winning seasons and a 7-2 bowl record, I think they're entitled.
Mack Brown is one of the best coaches in the country, and Texas always has a great recruiting class. This team isn't going anywhere and will remain a powerhouse and contend for the national championship.
2. Oregon Ducks
13 of 14The Oregon Ducks have been competitive for quite some time now, and as long as head coach Chip Kelly is there, they won't be going anywhere.
The additions of Texas and Oklahoma may hurt the Ducks' recruiting, but this team will still get their fair share of players.
1. Oklahoma Sooners
14 of 14Oklahoma is No. 1 in the polls for a reason, and the Sooners are always stacked on both sides of the ball. They are one of the few teams in college football that don't rebuild, they just replace.
Switching conferences will have no effect on the Sooners, as they will be competitive anywhere they decide to go.
